beadlocks

dot says that in a collision the tire should be able to break away from the wheel. also wheels must be dot approved. after they are modified they are not

Get the Staun internal Beadlocks, they're for a regular wheel(with a little modification) but expensive!!

My MRW beadlocks are stamped DOT in the inside. Also Military humvee wheels are DOT approved also.
And yet the interstate system was built for the military!

Man, I had a long reply typed out about how there is nothing illegal about beadlocks, or even homebuilt wheels--as long as they conform to the NHTSA's FMVSS's specifically 109 and 110. But then adobe killed firefox.
Anyway,
"I think the bolts on it are the worry." and "dot says that in a collision the tire should be able to break away from the wheel. also wheels must be dot approved. after they are modified they are not"
No.
DOT "approved" is a misnomer. They don't approve anything, it's up to the manufacturer to make sure their products comply, they don't even have to stamp "DOT" on them if they don't want--that doesn't mean they aren't DOT compliant. When it comes to DOT/NHTSA and passenger car rims, there are VERY few rules. And none that say anything as to how the tire's bead should be held or beadlocks.
Beadlocks being illegal is a myth that gets perpetuated on boards like JU.
