So this has been beat to death (sorry)
In regards to the 8.8 rear swap
I am looking at LKQ and they have a couple of explorers
V8 & V6 1996-1999
Several have 8.8’s
Several have 4:10’s & 3:73 both v8,v6
There is one LSD 3:73

what are yalls recommendations

thank u

What is your question exactly? Get whatever ratio matches your front if that's the game plan. Otherwise, get the cheapest one that is most complete as you'll be re-gearing anyway.
Regarding the LSD, they wear out in like 50k miles stock, so don't get a LSD diff expecting it to be functional.

Get one with 4.10 gears, then find a D30 stock with the same ratio if yours doesn't already have that ratio.

Open carrier is stronger than the LSD. You also have to have an open carrier to run a lunchbox locker if you want. And the open carrier is stronger than the LSD. As Jody said, they don't work anyway.

I'd go with the one with disc brakes. Like stated above you'll most likely be swapping gears anyway.
