Been a rough couple of weeks

Hey Guys,

So I have a CJ-5 that I was desperately trying to get ready for 4WD Training 101 course that happened May 24th. Needless to say that didn't happen.

The last week in April is when stuff both started going great for me but also my life turned a lit bit upside down as well. I got a call from a previous manager that he was now working at a new company and wanted to work with me again, said come over and have a beer and we'll talk about the job. I said sure. Basically two days later I had a job offer that was full time, I've been working as a contractor since I moved to North Carolina, with full benefits including full health care for my family. Honestly its a great job, though really difficult at times, and because of a NDA I can't say much, essential I work in computer security as an test engineer.

Anyway it was that weekend that I went back to hammering on my CJ-5 to get it really for the training. Oddly enough that was the weekend I discovered my brakes lines were completely shot, the brake proportionate valve was WAY to close to the header and they are hitting each other and I stripped the lines trying to replace the front brake hoses.

Also found out the parking brake cables were completely locked up. Normally this wasn't too big of deal but I'm switching jobs and I don't know when I'm going to get another paycheck. At this point I stopped working on my CJ-5 completely because I had no funds to put towards it, I was trying to save every penny I had until I got my first paycheck from work.

Kind of felt like after that weekend stuff started going down hill honestly. Easier to just list stuff:

  • Found out I wouldn't get a paycheck from my new job until second week of June, which I now have thankfully, but it was a mad scramble to sell some stuff that I've had sitting around so I would have funds.
  • Dropped my cell phone which caused all the speakers in the phone to break so I had to get a wireless headset to just use it, I don't have a land line for my house because we have the cell phones. Finally got a new one Friday once I got paid.
  • A rock broke the rear window in my Jeep Liberty when I was at my friends house who was mowing his lawn
  • Went out on the lake with the same friend, and a couple of kids went by our boat so fast with so much wake that it threw me overboard and I lost my glasses, which I had just gotten. Both the broken window and losing my glasses happened the same day.
  • Went to apply to consolidate some student loans and found out randomly that I have 9 debt collections against me. This one is the best! I moved to North Carolina in 2012 from Virginia. Virginia, more specifically Abingdon where I use to live, still charged me taxes for my cars for both 2013 and 2014 and filed them to a debt collector. When I called them up at the Treasury in Abingdon, I kid you not, the lady said it would be better if I just paid the past due taxes I owed to the state and town. At this point I threatened to get a lawyer because I did not live in the state on the Jan 1st of 2013. After almost 4 hours of phone calls they are finally sorting it out with my credit score, but here is the kicker, I gave my change of address notices to everything when I moved, even DMV in Virginia. When I asked where they were sending the tax notices, they told me my Abingdon address for my old house . . . which I no longer own because I sold the house. So they were taxes two different families with vehicles . . . on the SAME property. I'm still calling once a week getting updates on when they are going to fix my credit report on that one.
  • The must recent and frustrating was some of my online accounts, most notably Facebook (which I don't even like but I have to keep in touch with family from around the world) got hacked and I had the joy of getting that all sorted out.
Getting my pay check last week really helped, went basically a month without a paycheck, which sucks because I was use to getting paid every Friday and now I'm getting paid twice a month which works, its just adjusting when all my bills are being taken out of my account, nothing too big though. So life is looking up, I finally organized my garage which I've been needing to do for a LONG time, and found a killer deal last night on some parts I really need for my CJ-5 so hopefully this is the end of string of bad luck!

Long story short, I'm trying to get my CJ-5 down but I have no real idea on the time frame anymore, it just feels good to back here again and catching up on all the posts I missed. I was so stressed out I didn't even want to go online.

Sorry to hear about the run of bad luck. I’ve got two pieces of advice. First, GTF off facebook. That is a worthless life robbing website. I closed my account permanently after it got hacked the second time. If your family can get on facebook, then they can read your emails. Second, set up an emergency savings account at your bank. Have a set amount drawn out of your checking account and deposited into the emergency savings account every month or every two weeks since that is when you get paid. Before long, you will have a nice buffer to fall back on.

Yeah I really need to, I'm not a fan of facebook at all. On the emergency savings . . . yes I should have been doing that and now I am putting aside some money each pay check for just this reason. I haven't been doing it because well . . Obamacare screwed me. When I was contracting, I was paying for health care out of pocket and January 1st this year it went up over $200 a month, which just killed all my finances. I was basically paying my mortgage for my freaking crap health care every month, I couldn't find any money too save which sucked!
