Is anyone into this beyond the Mr. Beer kit level?

Im looking to get into the hobby, and need somewhere to start. The information is way overwhelming, and all I am looking for right now is a good book or something to get me started. Any recommendations?

Also, where do you guys keep all the brew stuff in your house? Basement, spare bedroom, etc?

you need to find a good brew store. they have kits available that will allow to brew all kinds of beer. it's not the Mr. Beer kind of kit either. it'll have all the malt and grains.

you'll need to get a 6-gal bucket with lid and airlock. then a good brew pot. i got a good stainless pot from wally world years ago for around $50. it needs to have a good thick bottom. then think about kegs or bottles. I started with bottles. Screw tops won't work. they have to have been pried off. Sam Adams and other micros have these types. you'll need about 2 1/2 cases worth for a 5-gal batch.

those are really the basics. you'll need to get other stuff too but that's a start. books are OK but I did better just following the recipes in the store and talking with the guys.

Just got into it recently and we have our first batch bottled. Our kit cost about 100 or so (had all the basic things you need to brew above me beer level) then a good 5 gallon pot. We did it in the kitchen. We bought all our stuff from bull city home brew.

Find a local home brew club and join. There will be folks there who will give you all sorts of tips.

Theres a big club in the lenoir area called grill and brew club. I think their on facebook.

I got into the Hobby about 2 or 3 years ago. My first couple of batches are what they refer to as a extract brewing. You can buy a beer brewing kit at your local homebrew store (do a search), this usually includes a Pot (to boil in on your stove), thermometer, racking cane, fermenting bucket, air lock, bottling bucket, hydrometer, and capper. (I dont think i missed anything). When you buy a "kit beer" it come with directions and all ingredients (literally just add water  ).

That's the way I would get into it (a little cheaper then going all grain right off the bat) plus you rather find out you don't like it with little money in it, rather then building a system. You can always add on to the system you buy. I still have most of the original equipment, I just don't use the pot for brewing anymore.
