Ok just put new engine in my zj and somehow we bent my inspection cover so my question is, can i run without that inspection cover if i seal the bottom of bellhousing somehow??? I know it can get mud rocks etc inside if not sealed somewhat but is there anything im not expecting going to happen after it back together? Gimme your opinion plz. thanks

Im not a newbie just wondering if anyone has done this and if it could mess trans/engine up somehow? thanks

Anyone got an opinion on this?

Is there any reason you can't bend it back? With a hammer if necessary?

No it was kinda chewed up from flex plate bolts, i coulda saved it but would have just got new one if i really needed it! After attempting to put all back together found out my transmission mount failed and that could have been culprit for it hittin cover in first place...

If it aint one thing its another! ugh

I'd say the flexplate is too vulnerable in the ZJ's transmissions. If it weren't a sizeable chunk open on the frontside of the bellhousing I would say it'd be fine, but not the ZJ's.

it won't hurt it to leave it off.
my main concern would be mud and water, if in deep water the dirt will dry on the seal and possibly hurt the seal, but it's not like the cover is water tight anyway.

do you have it running, because the cover also acts as a starter shim.

It shimming the the tranny back so the starter works right would be my main concern. I've ran stuff with no plate for years but if its one that goes between the motor and tranny like a shim it needs to be between the two. IMO
