I never remember to turn off my AC before I turn my Jeep off. I will turn it off the next time I get in before I start it. I wait until I am going up the main road in 4th gear before turning it on again. Almost everytime I turn it on (the AC) it will start to squeal, initially, when the clutch kicks in, and will often continue until I turn it off and try it again later. Today it started squealing after being stopped at a stop sign. When the squealing starts the voltage drops from 14 down to 11 or 12. Even had it drop all the way down and peg to the left and the check gauges light come on. This has happened twice.
I am going to pop the hood soon and troubleshoot it but could this be as simple as needing a new belt?

theres 3 things it could be. Belt is loose and is just slipping with the extra load applied. Or the compressor is binding up internally or your high side is building too much pressure, but thats doubtfull

Tighten the belt. Problem solved

belt tension for sure. My XJ does the same, just havent messed with it yet.

Tensioner is the Power steering pump. Should be obvious what to do once you check it out.

Was wondering where you've been the other day actually. I was cleaning up my room here at home and found a USPS receipt with your name on it. I guess it was from when you sent me the center console for my TJ

Still got the Jeep but also have a Harley and guns and bows and wife and kids. Don't do as much with the Jeep anymore. I was out your way Memorial Day weekend.
