Bent rear axle housing

Have a toyota REAR axle with a SOA set up on a samurai. Just purchased the vehicle a few weeks ago and just noticed the rear axle when I loaded it up on the trailer. Haven't taken any measurements nor pulled the axle apart to confirm ( I plan on messing with it this week ), but it I have no doubt its bent on both sides. Looks like it begins the bend right at the leaf spring perches on both sides.

Is there anyone in the area that has the tools to straighten the axle with some boot? I imagine all it would take is a hydraulic press and maybe an hour of jig work.

thanks.

$100 compared to $450 is a big difference lol. But if I cant find a rear for $100 or less, it may be smarter in hind sight to go with a TG housing like you mentioned, plus the truss for another $130... I just didn't want to spend over $500 right now.

I was hoping just to fix my rear axle I have now and run it.

You will be better off to either buy a completely new (used) axle and have spare parts, or spend more on a trailgear housing. There are too many of those things laying around to spend money trying to straighten a bent one.

Agreed. Salvage parts and scrap housing.

Whenever I see these posts makes me wish I would have keep the spare housings I had. Just make sure you get the right housing since the ifs and sa housing are different widths. Should be able to find a housing in the 50 dollar range.

Lol. I modded one of yours for an Elocker and sold the third member out of it. Ended up with not much money in the housing, with shafts and very good brakes.

Yup lol, I had two other rear sa housings at one point in time. The elocker axles seem to be getting cheaper, or at least more abundant now.

Appreciate the help guys. I measured my axle.... roughly 51 1/2" flange to flange. Ill have to look up to see if its IFS or sa.

measuring from the bottom of the drum to drum is 50 7/8"
measuring from the top of the drum to drum is 50"

So almost an inch difference, i'd have to say its definitely bent.

Not having much luck finding toyota housings on craigslist... but I am sure there are many around that people wouldn't mind parting with. Any help locating a rear is great. I will also post up on the WTB section. Thanks.

A quick search on the pirate.

Toyota Rear Axle Widths:
55" wide, '79-85 4wd trucks/4runners - 6 Lug
58" wide, '86-95 4wd trucks/4runners - 6 Lug
60.75" wide, '95.5-up Tacomas/4runners
66.75" wide, '93-98 T100trucks

I imagine its measured from hub to hub. Guess I will have to remeasure.
