Got this nice little bend in a rim...

Looks like in the process took a little bite out of the tire too.
If you look closely, not only is the lip of teh rim bent, but the sidewall really bends in there too, probably for the first 3-4inches up the sidewall.
Can thsi just be fixed by offmounting the tire, and hammering/bending it back out? Think something behind the sidewall is broken too, or is all that bend just from the rim?
it actually seems to ride decently... at least I can't tell any difference, lol.

Its hard to tell from the pic but it looks like the rim lip may be pinched closed or close to it. I think it may be too close to that seam to get it straight but its always worth a try. it'll probably take a little heat with a torch and then you risk weakening the rim. IMO I'd replace the wheel.

Well conveniently my spare tire is actually on a brand new rim, worst case I'll swap it with that one. just sucks to have to pay to have 2 un/remounted.

I have a couple of places like that on my rims. They don`t leak so I haven`t thought anymore about it. I can`t see un/mounting every time this may happen when I go wheeling.

It's no big deal. No need to heat the rim normally, just use a big hammer. Since your tire is bowed in I'd get it fixed.

Id definitely fix it.
I have had good success with a bench vise in straightening lips in the past, that is a bit of a tricky position but may still be doable

Si is the concensus that the tire itslef is most likely ok, and that big bend inward comes from the rim?
Of course I guess I'll find out when I unmount it.

I have worked in tire shops and servise shops for years and have always been told that if a tire has a bend in like yours it is ok only to worry if it only worry about it if it is protruding

Obviously a mallcrawling accident... only a curb or speed bump can make a dent like that!

Break it down yourself and then you'll only need to pay for a single balance :flipoff2:

No malls at Rausch Creek... :flipoff2: not sure when I picked it up, but spent the day going through some pretty rocky shit, noticed it when airing up to head home.

I had some dents that were quite a bit worse than that, and dismounted the tire. Then bolted the rim back on the jeep, that way it was held good and tight and took a big adjustable wrech and a hammer and was able to bend them right back out. No big deal at all.

Yeh, it works great. We have used it to mount numerous tires from 40" TSL's to 215's, on steel wheels with 2" backspacing to 16" aluminum rims. The only set that denied me was my Dodge Ram. I could not break the bead on either side of the first tire I tried. I gave up after about an hour and went to Sears who broke it off in me to the tune of $100 for mounting and balancing, but I guess they really hit you when you bring in your own tires (bought em from Tirerack). I had a date that night and didn't have time to shop around, lol!
