I'm shopping for a good air compressor to run a sand blaster and painter. Needs to be single phase 110 or 220, I'm thinking 220 is a more reasonable expectation. I think minimum of 60 gallon hoping for an 80 or bigger though. And I'll probably by new so I get the warranty and not someone elses clapped out crap they sold me... Any body have any to stay away from or good success with others??? Lowes, Tractor Supply? Central Pneumatic? Ingersol?

Any input is appreciated

Dave

Look for a low speed motor. It will cost a little extra but be quitier and last longer.

You need to go off of the cfm requirements of your blaster & painter.

I've been checking on this myself. Right now I'm kinda stuck between two...

Kobalt 3.7 HP, 60 gallon
This one is 11.5 SCFM@ 90 PSI, comes with 3 year warranty for $499.00. I was figuring on adding the 4 year extended warranty for another $99.00. That would put me with an air compressor under warranty for the next 7 years.

The other one I was looking at is this one...

Quincy 3.5 HP, 60 gallon
12.4 CFM @100 PSI but only has a 12 month warranty at $699.99
2 year extended warranty is $129.99 - $299.99, depending on which one you get.
I really like the Quincy compressors. Slower motor for higher CFM and the pump is rated for 10,000 hours. I just have a hard time paying that much more for less warranty and only marginal more CFM.

Just my two cents anyways... Will probably go with the Kobalt and just build a small shelter outside the shop to keep it out of the weather so it won't be as loud where I'm working. Hard to beat that much compressor with warranty for 7 years at only $600.00.

www.eatoncompressor.com. Not sure what you want to spend , but my 220V 5 hp, 80 gal model was right at $1400 and a whole different quality than the craftsman/lowes/HD stuff (in my opinion anyway). Good warranty but you'll very likely not need it. I love mine. Has continuous run mode for when I am blasting or painting so the motor doesn't start and stop, the compressor valves just cut in and out when needed.

My compressor has a 1750 rpm motor. That's the only way to go. You can stand right next to it and have a conversation.
