Specifically dishwashers. We've got all ge appliances in the kitchen and save for the dishwasher everything has worked fine. Everything is 3yrs old. Stupid dishwasher user interface board has quit and is on national backorder. According to google this is a common problem with these ge's. Anyone have strong feelings one way or another on a better, more durable, dishwasher?

We bought a Bosch two years ago to replace a 25 year old cheapie that was original to our house. I don’t like that it doesn’t have a heating coil that drys the dishes, you have to pop the door when it gets done to help the dishes dry. But, it’s quite, real quite. I could hear the old one running in the bedroom at the far end of the house. If the Bosch didn’t have a red light I would not know it’s running.

The hive brain will say Bosch.
I have one now too.
It’s quieter than my old GE.
I guess the dishes are just as clean. It feels subjectively cheap to me but I can’t put my finger on why.
I don’t love it nor hate it - which I guess means it’s adequate

I have a mix of Samsung, Whirlpool and Frigidaire. The Fridge, built in microwave and dishwasher are the Samsung's. So far, so good. the DW gets things clean and is pretty quiet.
Close friend just bought high end Bosch for the house he just built and is very unhappy with them. The dishwasher is as loud as straight pipes, the 36" range is missing features one would expect on a modern range like digital temp control, separate timers and self cleaning. When the manual says to monitor temperature with a meat thermometer, you know they are riding on their reputation.

I'm a Samsung fan. We've had it about 8 years.

A friend's family has a good size multi city appliance rapair co. Fwiw, he says to stick with GE, Whirlpool, Kitchen-aide and shy from LG, Bosch, samsung.

That is shocking. We have a high end ($1,000+) Bosch dishwasher. I can't hear it running. The only way to tell that it is on is looking for the red light shining on the floor.

We had an Electrolux installed when our house was built. It sucked and broke after only about 4-5 years.

Another for Bosch (specifically dishwashers)

I know. I was very surprised by this.

I have a 5 year old Bosch...best 'modern' dishwasher I've had, and by far the quietest. However, I had to replace a drain pump on it last year and had to replace a control board a couple months ago.

And honestly, he's not talking dishwashers specifically. Just a general sense.

We had all new Bosch appliances at our last house. The wall oven went out in 2 years 2x. The Bosch dishwasher was very quiet and nice. Idk how long it will last since we moved.

We recently purchased a high end Kitchen Aid. Every time it runs, I feel it was was on the best purchases to date. You cant hear it! Our other one had to run at night while we were in bed because it was so loud. Just overall better quality, flush on front (no handle)better SS and cleaner dishes. Has a easily removed screen for cleaning every three months or so it needed. Highly recommend.

That is likely due to repair parts cost and availability.

Get something without computers, they last forever.
I am dumb with dishwashers, and have one that needs to be repaired. Where do you find one without computers?

and very, very, very expensive
Often all at once, particularly when you learn its broken and time for a trip to the dump.

Shit - mine aint worked in 18 years. But it doesnt cost anything sitting udner the counter taking up space. Try to haul it off and ...well there goes half my NW.

800 series Bosch

Take a couple of plates, bowls, etc, with you to the store to make sure they fit. If you have big/chunky/thick plates, you might be better off with something from one of Kitchen Aid's lines (Whirlpool, Maytag, etc)

Miele should be bombproof, but won't clean as well as Bosch

those are super high maintenance and very, very, very expensive

Yes, my wife likes to comment that my dishwasher still works fine, but she doesnt have one anymore. Finding a replacement that will last more than a few years will soon be well worth the money.

We have a KitchenAid that was installed in 2017. Nice, all stainless inside/out. Pump assembly was replaced probably 1.5 years ago and now the circulation pump is not working again. POS crap. I can replace it for about $160 and it is a nice dishwasher, but when is enough enough?
