Best auto darkening helmet

I have the form fitting Snapon auto helmet (I like that it seems to fit my big head into tighter places) but the lens has about gotten scarred too much. I need to price a newer helmet vs. a new lens from big red….I imagine a new helmet will be cheaper now that I’m not a dealer.

Mine is like this but is a limited edition camo model

Even my craptastic HF hood has inner/outer protective lenses... sure that isn't all you need?

And you might see if @snappy can do anything for you. He drop shipped me (Non-SO) compression & Leak-down testers a few months back...

@WARRIORWELDING does anybody make a helmet with “readers” built into the lens or an add on? I have to wear mine under the helmet to do my best work now and in summer that sucks.

Not saw any that are not a clip in deal. Closest to made in user feel is the one I have placed in my Jackson unit. The panel flips up and I have it right against the glass on the inside.

I tried one in my Lincoln. The offset and viewing window size difference does not work together at all. I resorted to my readers. This year I decided to suck it up and join the "Highly Experienced Crowd" my welding was suffering embarrassingly. The major adjustment has been depth perception on GTAW.

I am anything but an experienced welder but I bought this Eastwood helmet after buying several cheap HF helmets and I absolutely love it. I can actually see what I'm doing. Wide field of view and true color. I got mine on sale for $129 but I would pay the $170 for it after using it. I also waited a bit for mine, I guess they are really popular.

I bought a Hobart creator the other day at tsc on a whim. No complaints so far. I'm far from a professional, but I weld a fair bit at work and my fixed shade wasn't cutting it trying to tig, try being the key word there. Everytime I knocked my hood down, I'd lose my starting position. For what 99% of folks on here do, I think it's just fine.

There should be a clip to add readers to the helmet.

2" x 4.25" Clear Magnifying... Amazon product ASIN B007196MLY
Inside right on the removable electric cartridge. The window for the shield is much larger. The clip on mine also spaces it just off the internals. Both make the sight line consistently through it and focusing a pain.
I'm always looking through the cheaters border or getting distortion.
Same reason I can't get used to safety glasses with cheater made in the bottom. I guess it's like 🤓 bifocals. I haven't broke down and got my eyes checked yet.

Yeah they have their drawbacks esp if your out of position. They do make safety glasses that are magnified through the whole lens not just at the bottom.

I should get my eyes checked as well my vision is noticeably worser.

I got a 3350 a few weeks ago. It helps but I still need the flashlights that attach to something. If I have it spotlighted I can see and weld, if not i still suck at welding! lol

Been welding with a Miller digital elite and a digital infinity at work lately. I’m picking up a digital elite for the house, hopefully soon.
