So im getting ready to attempt a rebuild on my motorcraft 2100 off of my 73 j2000 with 360. Its nastttyyyy..I'm talking about makes carb cleaner and elbow grease look like nothing. So my question is does anyone know of a good carb cleaner or remedy to soak a carburetor in for 24 plus hours?

I just saw a youtube video of a gentleman claiming he's rebuilt carbs for years and tired everything and said the best was Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) Solvent.

Thoughts? Ideas?

MEK will work. You can buy a 5 gallon bucket of carb cleaner at some parts stores with a hanging basket in it.

I use B12 chemtool on just about everything.

^X2. I use chemtool on reassembly of old transfer cases with 40 years of cooked gear oil inside them. That stuff eats!

Looks like chemtool it is haha. I plan on pulling it apart this afternoon and letting things soak overnight..

Autozone guy recently told me B12 is going to be taken off their shelves. Something to do with California's supreme knowledge of all things regarding cancer. :shaking:

Hell this day in age everyyyything gives you cancer. But I guess that means stock up hah. I bought a MEK because I couldn't find B12 at advanced or autozone. And it didnt work as well as I hoped. They had gunk off or some junk at the auto parts store.. with that and some brushes I made some head way. Should have it finished up this afternoon.

Go to a boat shop and get a can of Mercury PowerTune. It has fixed many a carb issue on rigs, lawn movers, and motorcycles. Its like $10 a can last time I checked
