I was wondering if anyone has replaced their factory exhaust system with an aftermarket one. If so, which one and why?

I know the usual suspects but there's a lot of choices with each one. Also, what state laws do I need to watch out for?

edit: From my research it looks like MBRP looks like the way to go. It's not as expensive as some but still has a good sound. Does anyone have a MBRP system?

I run a MBRP on my 99.5 PSd and love it. i have Tried many exhaust sytems on that truck before I settled on the 5" MBRP.

MBRP is the best sound for the 7.3. If you're under 500 hp go with 4 inch. If you're near 500 hp or have plans to be over that eventually, go with 5 inch.

I have the Silverline 4" on mine. I bought it used and it was somewhat cut up, so I just welded a turn-down on the muffler, it dumps out behind the cab a couple feet. No complaints, sounds good, and seems to be well built. But for $50 I can't complain much.

If you have an early 99' it probably has a catalytic converter on it, most diesels don't have them, and most shops that will inspect it won't look for one. I'd lose it...

Whatever you get, definetly get a nice stainless system. You may want to try just straight piping what you have if you want to save $$$, it will still be the 3.5", but the lack of a muffler will make the difference. If you like the sound, leave it, if not, buy something nicer.

I was definitely thinking 4". I don't have plans to hop up my co-dd/tow rig. I put in a small tuner and gave it 80hp and 120 ft/lbs. That's enough for what I need to do. I also upgraded the air filter/intake with an AFE model.

Anyway, 4" SS MBRP system. Where's the best place to buy? I've seen all kinds of prices. What's the difference between cat back and turbo back systems? Do I even need to worry about it?

turbo back means the exhaust kit comes with a down pipe and goes from there. its a complete system. i would get the 4" from turbo back.

Grand Rock Stack kit.....turbo back.....Oh yeah:popcorn:

3-4in turbo down pipe
4-5 in out to a 6-7in stack or two

nothing sounds as good to me and the down pipe is the most important part on any system
