I have come across many sites that offer 304 rebuild kits. Some sites even offer more than one such as a master kit, an overhaul kit and a basic rering kit. I have a 72 304 with a bad piston but I also have another 304 as a parts motor. Where is the best place to get one and which should I go with? Thanks in advance.

IMO, I would not build a 304, before I would rebuild a 304, I would get a 360, If you are stuck on a V-8

On my next Jeep project I will be building a 4.0, fuel injected, and make a stroker out of it

now If you are set on using a 304, do it right

I am assuming you are gonna rebuild it yourself

If so I got my AMC 401 rebuild kit from maddog racing out of Florida

they offer stock kits, also offer high performance kits

quality is good

felpro gakets, and all the good stuff, all the parts they offer in their kits are made in the U.S.

makes a difference to me

Got my kit at Maddog as well. Very satified.. x2 on the 360.

So I should ditch the 304 idea (sell them or whatever) and find a 5.9 to go into my cj?

you can do whatever, I am just saying 360's are plentiful and you cant build a 304 with all the High performance stuff, and get the power and torque that a stock 360 is gonna have

this is a wide open question...........its all up to you and how you want to build your rig! If you're looking for performance, build for performance. I'd say that you need to look for some good aftermarket support on whatever you build though. If you want to build for crawling, I would spend my money on gearing and suspension. Just my .02, but its really all up to you.
