lookin at replacing the stock shocks on the excursion whats a good repalcemnt for a tow rig? i plan on bagging the rear suspension before long so does it even matter if i have great shocks or mediocre ones ?

anything monotube. Bilstein, newer Edelbrock IAS, KYB monomax, etc...

Rancho/Doetsch/Monroe, etc.. are all twin-tube low pressure or cellulose junk.... and are meant for passenger cars... you need something to positively control the axle.

I have yet to be impresed by a bilstien on anything seems they work pretty good but don't last long at all, why is everyone so ate up with them? this is a tech Q?

Not sure on the bil's, but the KYB monomax's I had on the Dodge carried a lifetime warranty.. ;)

are you going with full bags and 4link rear, or just adding bags to the factory susp? Id say stick with good shocks, cuz even though a bag has a smoother and adjustable ride, its still simply a spring...

Yea, while my bags made all the frikin difference in the world and did wonders for my truck driveability even w/o towing, they def don't take the place of shocks. They do definitely help with body roll, spring rate, ride height, etc, etc.

spring rate? O RLY?

Hey, if you're gonna throw around terminology to make it sound like you know what you're talking about, expect to be called on it! :flipoff2:

Ran edelbrocks before, both rears snapped at the weld about 6 months apart. no wheeling, no wheel hopping, just junk IMO

My vote is for the Procomp MX6's (6 way adjustable)... I can tell a significant difference between them and the bilsteins and the adjustments actually work... you can tell a difference...
