better shifting with tighter linkage?

was havin problems with my C4 tranny shifting from first directly into 3rd. got under it today because i noticed a small drip of tranny fluid and the nut that holds all the linkage stuff to the side of the tranny was loose. tightened it up and now its shifting better but its really hard to put into gear from the start. should i leave it or is there a way to adjust that kinda stuff

was it the 1/2" nut you snugged up? if so that is the nut that holds the kickdown lever on. the linkage is actually held on the inside of the pan with a big nut.
there is an o-ring that leaks behind that little lever. you shouldn't tighten it very tight. it needs to be just snug, it should have a lockwasher to keep it tight.

yea it was a 1/2 in. i just snugged it up. but why would that cause the shifting to get better?

the arm that you tightened goes inside the trans and has a "L" shape at the end, it could have been pushing against the kickdown valve just enough to put pressure on it and make it thing it was trying to downshift.
