Beware: Scrap metal collectors

The company behind ours (same building) had a lot of stainless scrap metal stolen last night. Two days ago a foreign individual stopped by and wanted to take their scrap. He was forceful and offered cash, but they had a lot and are under gov't contracts so they have to dispose of it themselves properly. They also had an employee that had left is car over night in the parking lot and they cut the cat. converter out of it.

The description was guy in a two tone blue and white F150. This was in the Mooresville area.

They got away with most of it, but left a 2" thick, 3ft. dia. plate in the middle of the parking lot. There must have been quite a few to try and take all of it. Guess the plate was just too much cause it's sitting in the middle of our parking lot!

I can't believe they cut the cat out of the car and left the car!! :lol:
 
You would be surprised what a catalytic converter will bring for salvage value.

Some foriegn makes bring $120+ for a used cat.
 
I have a friend that was trying to sell her Honda. A couple Hispanic guys came to look at it and asked if they could test drive it. She let them. They came back after being gone only a few minutes. they parked the car and went to the door and gave her the keys back. Said they were not interested. She went out a little later to move the car. When she cranked it up, it seemed to run alot louder. How about those fools stole her muffler. That sucked for her but it was kinda funny. They were quick! the bad part is, that she had just put that muffler on, a few weeks earlier.

I just sold $1100 worth of used mercedes cats....they have platinum in them that when heated and cooled thousands of times becomes jewelers quality. Ah I love the sound of a rattling cat in the morning!
 
yeah, local police said that a small car dealer had ALL of the cats cut out of the trucks on their lot.

Makes me nervous being I just lifted my cherokee! No jack needed to jack my coverter!

I was more worried with a non-locking gas cap on my heep than I was someone stealing the cat off of it!
 
Any value to two 6.0 powerstroke cats? I have 2 laying around and wouldnt mind unloading them if i could get a few bucks for them.
 
they may get pissed if they were to find an empty cat. Who knows what kind of damage they could do with a sawzall!

I'm sure those 6.0 cats are worth something!
 
I got a better description today

Blue F150 with white wall tires.

That should be easy to find! So they're not only theives, but also extremely dumb to drive such a recognizable vehicle.
 
didnt realize you are in HKY..

what was the company that the scrap was taken from? I'll keep an eye out for the offending F150..
 
I live in Hickory as I'm attending L-R, but still work fulltime in Mooresville at a machine shop.

Keep and eye out for my slightly lifted white XJ on 32's. There's another around just like mine, but I'm sporting the L-R sticker on the back. In a Honda Prelude most of the time.
 
my dad runs a truck repair buisiness on the side(tractor trailers).he had about 6,000.00 worth of cores and rebuildable rears and trannies stolen about a week and a half ago here in charlotte.it realy sucks,but he has the serial numbers on the rears so hopefully someone will find them,maybe.

What year are you?
 
I'll be a senior this year, but my second time to college. I've already got a degree in Mech. engineering, but decided to change careers.

I've just about got the XJ trail ready. I need to install my gas tank skid and make some sliders. Hopefully put some bumpers on it or add some sort of tow hooks as there isn't anything to hook onto now. She's open front and rear so maybe a lockrite in the back.
