After some searching around in VA I saw this park has two open weekends in the summer and one in September for a descent price and looks to be a big park with some good trails. I figured URE isn't what it used to be anymore and wanted to start looking around.

Anyone been here? Videos? I've been on youtube for a little checking it out.

Looks like a ton of rocks which is always up my alley. It would be great to hear a review on this place from someone here on the board.

The MD Creepers go down there for the main events, the Main Jambo in Sept is the big main event.
Nice variety of trails, everything from mild to wild, they line Fri and Sat morning according to difficulty and go out in group w/ guides etc.
Lots of partying at night, although there is at least one camping area that is kind of designated as "family friendly".


Some of the trails are really tight w/ lots of twists & turns, not so good for a full-size fun fun in SWBs.
I definitely recommend it, good deal for the $$.
 
Definitely some of the best rock crawling/trail riding on the right coast. BUT, unless something has changed its rather expensive. $75 to wheel, $75 to camp, 12hrs towing round trip( for me). I plan to go this yr but thats not my idea of "cheap".
 
Been to several Big Dogs events, and they are always good,but expensive.

Strictly Speaking, though, Big Dogs is the organizer, While The Cove is the Venue. Vehicle Registration goes to Big Dogs, $65 or $75 depending on the event. Camping fees go to The Cove and are $35 per person per weekend. There is lots to do there outside of the wheeling event itself, and if you take the family you can send them off to do other things while you wheel.

Camp 6 is the hard partying area, and is sometimes blocked off as the night goes on, cause it can get pretty rowdy, but the rest of the camps are not so bad.

Trails are widely varied, and extensive, you can wheel an entire 3 day weekend without seeing a third of the park, and as mentioned above, the events are very well organized with at least one group at every level from 1 to 11.

Well worth the cost, but it's quite a hike from NC, and the gas costs could be too much, It's only about 90 Miles for me, so I don't mind it that much..

Well a weekend at Rausch is pretty much the same cost, but the camping at The Cove is waaay better and what you get as a group experience is IMO a much better value. For me teh distance is about the same... around here we don't have the luxury of URE and private local trails in the back yard

And... yeah the MD Creepers are always in camp 6 o_O:rockon: up at the top of the hill, although the last few years have tamed down a bit... we are gettin' old and have kids now... last BD there was a real redneck crazy party group way over to the far side.

Was that the Fall Crawl? I Missed that one... I camp by Mad Matt's Trailer, So it's usually pretty calm there after the Saturday presentations and Music are done...

Are you gonna make the Ice Breaker?
 
this for me is actually easier and closer than Harlan.Lookin at 6 to 7 hours travel time and mostly interstate and not too bad on 17/15 in Va. Sure the per day price on wheeling is a little high but with 6000 acres to play on,I could wheel like I love to. If it just a once a year trip,I could save and scrimp to pull off the trip.Been up in that part of the Shenandoa Valley more times than I can remember with reenactments and that isn't a bad drive at all.Harlan for me would be a 10 plus hour drive with the weak tow pig I have and then hard grades going and coming.

No, Main Jambo in Sept.
At 3am Fri night I finally went down to their campsite to ask them to turn the radio down to something reasonable, only to find about 5 bodies completely passed out on the ground and not a soul moving :rockon:.
I think it was 2011 MJ we (creepers) brought out a table and set up beer pong right in the middle of teh crowd the band was playing for... then some girl was dancing on a tailgate... after that is really fuzzy.

No icebreakers for me, all my shit is broke and so am I thanks to impending furloughs
 
Awesome park. I went last month with a club called Hardrock Crawlers of So. Maryland. Great group to wheel with. The park as stated is The Cove and The Bigdogs hosts several weekends a year there. Lots of trails at many different levels. Tight twisty, technical trails as well as huge boulder gardens. Well worth the trip and cost. Going back up for Ice Breakers next month. Can't wait!
 
Went there with for the east coast bronco round up, good time and fun trails but I'll reiterate what everyone else said, its expensive. Also when you drive to a boyscout camp don't be worried, you're in the right place...just keep driving.

ohhhh this is killin me now.A look at mapquest and it's 300 miles roughlyand 6 hours of driving.Mountain City was 268 miles.Man I'd love to go to the event in sept.
 
We did training there, I met a few bears there near the dumpster!

The cove is a great place to go. Plenty of trails for all levels of rigs. You will have a blast Nick. Here are a couple pics from the Ice Breaker event I went to a couple of years ago.
