I make a thread stating I'm in the market for a 5speed toyota tranny. Bob PMs me. I bought a tranny from Bob at Big Wheel Offroad. Been having some issues. First of all the transmission I bought was jammed in reverse when we got to putting it in. 2nd, we worked out that if I shipped it back to him to fix, he would ship it back to me fixed. I finally get it back to him. He has it for 2 days, didnt do anything. I call back and now he's going on vacation for a week. I call back today (a week later) Wont be back until this following Monday. Sorry Bob but I've been very patient. I'm pretty agitated. I lost my job because I havent had my car for almost a month. Gettin' kind of fed up.

Im sorry to hear that. I bought my SM420 from him and he was more than helpful. Nice guy in my book, probably has alot going on.

Yea he is a nice guy, which is why I dont understand.

I figured he would have jumped on it right when he got it..... :(

I'm not trying to bash on him but I kind of already did hah...I'm just trying to get the point across that I am in serious need of my tranny. I dont want to get ugly with him on here or on the phone because that wont get me anywhere.

I'm also getting upset that Andy's had my rig for almost a month. heh like some of you said...thank god he doesnt charge rent.

Wait.. so you buy the trans, and it doesn't work (could very well have been damaged in shipment). So you send it back, and because he hadn't dropped everything, torn it down, and fixed it in 2 days, you're freaking out? I guess he should cancel a vacation for you... (Vacations are as rare as hen's teeth to someone self-employed)

Relax a little man. It sucks that you lost your job, but you're driving a 14 year old vehicle that you modified and admittedly dogged the hell out of and buried in the mud. Having a plan B would be a good idea if you want to drive a modified vehicle daily.

Even that legendary Toyota reliability has its limits, and you sir, have exceeded them.

How could you have drove it if Andy has had it a month?

I havent driven it. lol nah I wasnt planning for him to cancel his vacation for me. I dunno, guess I just had my hopes high. I'm not tryin to sound like an asshole.....might be too late though. =D

I do not mean to be an ass, but I do agree with something Rich said. Losing you job b/c of the car downtime isn't necessarily relevant or certainly the fault of this fellow. The bottom line is, if you have a job that requires transportation, then it is your responsibility to ensure that you can provide it. Hence, if you are in the habit of driving an old car which may have troubles, then you'd better have a backup plan on hand. This is just common sense. Else, if you have a problem with it, then you must do everything possible to get it going immediately - including not scrounging for parts and doing the work yourself, rather going directly to a source that can have it on the road ASAP, even though this may cost more $$. If you take a route that could take longer - then the consequences are yours. I believe many of us have 2 vehicles just for this reason.

Also, as mentioned, you cannot expect this feloow to necessarily drop everything and deal with your problem. Fixing a transmission is not a "skip lunch and do it" job. Did he flat out say "I will have it back to you in a few days of when I receive it"? If so, that does put more onus on him. If not - chill out.

Its been pounded in there and I'm chilled out. I didn't mean to infer that Bob was the cause of me losing my job. That is not the case. I took it upon myself to quit. I had been walking to work, catching rides...etc.

Again, Im not expecting him to drop everything to help me. I do agree with Rich that vacations are rare to self employed business owners. When's Andy going to take a vacation? You guys just found the nook to slip one in heh heh.

i dunno i guess I just jumped the gun.

That pretty much made it sound like you got fired.. Say what you mean and mean what you say.. You dont have any right to bitch about quitting a job because you were too lazy to do what it takes to get you there

You can really never expect anything that is being fabricated to be done on time . Its nice when it happens but always allow for little problems with this kind of work. I saw it sitting over at the shop the other day. Its gonna be sick when its done. Just need to get some new wheels under it. Those stockers arent going to do it any kind of justice, especially after the exo's done.:flipoff2:

Yeah, it will be nice when we get a working tranny so that we can get her finished up. Unfortunately, this is what happens sometimes when shops allow a customer to supply the pieces for a project........

Andy
