Heres the deal, i have a 24x42 shop. It has a 15' roof, but when the previous owner had the garage door put on, he only made it 8ft tall. Not sure why he did it, but i need to fix it. I need it to be at least a foot taller, if not more. Is there a simple way to do this? Ive looked at building sliding barn doors, but dont know a whole lot about them. If someone has experiance sliding doors, please chime in. If anyone feels like helping me build some, there would be cash/food/beer involved.

I built sliding doors for my garage, its fairly simple to do so. The hardware can be picked up at a hardware or home supply store. Not real cheap though, you will have a couple hundred in hardware at least, still cheaper than a new overhead door. Mine were just for a barn type open building so sealing it didn't matter, So I just made some with a 2x4s layed flat to make a square and ran a couple cross 2x4s flat to be nailers, I then used some 3/8 ply and cut triangles and glued and nail in the corners and any where two boards meet. Then sheeted it with alum roofing which held up well.

Made a set to cover my shelving also.

raising the header would definetly be interesting...the PO used 2x4s, but ran out, so used 2x6, cut in half then nailed back together...it is a nightmare. And its held together with screws, roofing nails, masonry nails, and god knows what else. is there any secret tips for maybe adding another run to the door? then extending rails, or something along that line?
