I'm looking for honest input on the Bilstein 5100 shock, specifically on part number 33-185576. It has the mounting length and ends that i'm needing. I've mis-engineered my current shock set-up and killed all 4 shocks, so i've got to replace them anyway. I want to eventually go to coil overs but that probably towards the end of the year. Whats your take on the shocks, how was the valving, how did they respond, and whats your opinion of the shock? It's a trail only rig that will never see the street, except to get to a trail head from a parking area. It's a buggy, with 6 inch lift TJ springs and weigh approx 3000-3500 lbs

I ran them on my 2010 Tacoma TRD Offroad and they were a big improvement over the stock Bilsteins that come with the Offroad package. They have a great reputation for being a very good shock and are reasonably priced. I am running 5125's (similar to 5100's) on my 85 crawler and happy with them. As far as valving goes you have to do your research on them because the valving is not adjustable, they are adjustable up front for lift at least for coil-overs. The 5100's I had on the Tacoma were set at 0 lift because if you use them for lift they are less responsive with a harsher ride especailly off road.

I should have specified, and I need to correct my first post. They are the 5125 series PN#33-185576 with a 255/77 valving instead of the softer 170/60 valving

I am running the stiffer valved, 255/77 I believe, 5125's (12") on my 85 Toyota. It has a 5" lift and 35's and I am happy with them off road. I drive some on the pavement with them and they a a bit rough on the road but that is not what they are designed for.

Yeah I have some 5100's..they def absorb alot...on road...they are nice and sporty feeling...but not the "best" shock for on road performance. I would def buy them again though
