Black Foam Rubber???

I need some black foam rubber about 1-1/2" thick... enough to get 3-4 6"x6" pieces out of. Any ideas as to where to look? ThanX!
 
The only I recall seeing, is at Vintage Shows, such as Old cars/trucks/tractor/antique, type shows. Vendors, that follow these shows, usually have large rolls, of this type rubber. Some people use it for "standing mats"
[sore feet]. Maybe some Flea Markets.
 
I'm not sure how dense you're looking for Don but you should contact Scott at MudPro he uses some pretty neat stuff like that to pack stuff when he ships it. It's fairly soft so it may not be what you're looking for.
 
Thanks guys... I had checked McMaster-Carr before posting... more than I am willing to pay. :shaking: I'll ask Scott next time I see him. Caver, if I told you the application I would have to have you assasinated before you could tell anyone else. :lol:

Have you looked at arma-flex insulation? You can get it that thick. Its pretty cheap too.

Granny, not sure if you have an REI or other outdoor outfitter nearby. I know that you can buy large pieces of foam (black I think) to cut and form for the internal padding on whitewater kayaks. Most of the time the shops have large amounts of it to sell and fit their boats for folks. May even get the section you need for next to free. Maybe it would be an option.
 
Actually, I just talked to Don, and I'm gonna let the cat out of the bag! He's looking for some way to insulate his subs so they don't rock the whole Jeep :wheel:

Yeah... but he failed to mention that I had to do the huge subs so he would be able to hear HIS Lawrence Welk CDs when he rides with me! :smokin:

Got some 1" thick scraps at work might be enough to get several pieces from. I'll check next week.

If not there is a couple of guys working the stock sale in Hickory at the fairgrounds that show up occasionally with some of this pading selling it as fatigue mats or sleeping pads. I know thats a long way but might be worth checking local as these guys usually work a circuit.
 
OK guys, I solved my own problem... will now let the real cat outta the bag. I have NOT, for years, had any luck with shifter boots. I buy a new one... I'm lucky if it lasts six months... damned Chinese rubber.

I had to make a new cover plate to go over the transmission hole in the floorpan of my YJ project. Instead of fabbing a hump over the shift tower on my T-18 to mount a boot on I just cut a round hole with plenty of clearance for the tower with the intent of making a foam donut to seal the hot air and dust out. I really did want black foam, but I have found that Krylon Fusion paint works very well on regular white/yellow foam thus I now have a source for black foam. I'm in the process of making a cutter for my milling machine that will allow me to cut perfectly round circles in the stuff. If this all works out the Chinese Rubber Co. can go belly up as far as I am concerned.

Use a hole saw of your choice and take the centering bit out. I used to do custom button and tuck in 2inch foam. Faster the better.
