My step-daughter's 99 Pontiac Sunfire's 2.2 liter ohv motor blew a head gasket. I have the head off it finally and it looks like it may be warped. I've heard a machine shop can take some warp out, but how much is too much?

Any idea on how much coin am I looking at, or am I better off looking for a new head?

You probably dont want to hear this, but I bet you spend more on fixing that head than the vehicle is worth, especially if you can see it is warped without the services of a machin shop.

if it were me, Id be looking at a junk yard motor.
decent little cars, sister in law had one, went to the junk yard last year with a blown head gasket and warper head

I would imagine you wouldn't want to disturb the compression ratio much on a 2.2L??? Any idea how far out it is?

You would need to cc the combustion size on the head to know exactly how much you can take off.

Take it to a machine shop and have it checked for cracks and measure how much it is warped.

X2. I've seen 2.2 crack a head so bad I'm surprised it didn't crack the head on the car parked next to it.

Looks like Napa has a reman head for $409.

My test was VERY unscientific. I set the head on my concrete driveway and it wobbled a little. I don't have a good solid metal table top to set it on to test it that way.
