has anyone ever blown a plug out of a ford 4.6 or 5.4? apparently is a common problem. I learned a lot on this subject after breaking down at 5:30 this am.

Combine the fact that there is a relatively small amount of thread engagement with the fact that most people are afraid to properly tighten the plug into an aluminum cylinder head and you have a mess. It is common enough that more than one company has thread repair kits specifically design for the ford ohc engines. i found this one for the low, low price of $449. plus shipping and handling.

But at least the dealers already have the tools, i just have to pay them $150 bucks to use them. oh well.
Tighten those plugs.

very common problem with the triton 2 valve engines. but to be honest, as a former ford factory trained service technician, i would much rather repair the threads from a blown out plug, then have to remove a 3 valve triton broken spark plug!

how tight do I need to torque them? I may as well make sure the other 7 are tight while I'm at it. What are the chances that I can just run a thread chaser though it and not have to heli-coil it? I havent pulled the plug in question out to see how much aluminum is in the threads yet.

even worse when the tip of the puller snaps off.

x2!!

Impact is your friend on these.

There was an article in 4wheeler mag about this, maybe it was 4 wheel & off road. Anyway, it said Lisle makes a kit for getting them out clean with out dropping junk in the cylinder.
