I go through bluetooth pieces pretty often so I'm up for trying out a new one.
I had the platronix for about a year now but it failed...it worked well for the most part but with the work I do (rolling around on the ground, welding, grinding, up/down moving around a ton) I need something that hugs the hear good and works well.
I'm really looking for features like: reads out phone number/contacts ..a must
would be nice if it could read out text mssg too ..
Not wanting to spend more than 50ish just because well, my phones and bluetooth stuff gets unintentionally abused and accidentally dropped/falls out of ear/pocket...unintentional interference with welding/plasma cutting blah blah so I don't want to pay a bunch knowing it will probably get broke sooner than later.

All those features are in your phone not the earpiece.
The earpiece is JUST a speaker that plays what the phone tells it to.

there are alas/settings to do what you want

Not necessarily, I've had many different bluetooth devices and my phones only control so much but each device has it's own unique features at least that's been my experience with 5/6 different bluetooth units

That may depend on the Bluetooth profile - does it register as a phone earpiece or as a media player.
That will change its behavior.
Also certain Bluetooth devices may have imbedded software that you load their apps on your device and it interacts through them, but even in that case if you delete the app it will connect and work as a stand alone device profile.
Of course you say 5-6 different decides and that you had your last one for a year so if you are going back 3-4 years you could have numerous OS updates and if multiple phones then each can have their own profile handling ..ie Samsung can be diff than Moto than iPhone etc

Lol good point. I go through phones like women and shoes haha (not funny though).
This Samsung Galaxy s8+ has broke the record of 6months woohoo..but speakers are screwy already after 3months
