I got a Renken open bow 17' fiberglass boat with a merc 120 I/O on a galvanized trailer.

My DD is a 1999 Honda CR-V EX
The stated towing capacity is 1000lbs. I'm trying to decide if I could pull it with the CR-V.
Surely the boat and trailer aren't 1000lbs...are they?

They aren't 1000 lbs, don't worry. it's going to be a lot more!
I would say you can't tow that with that vehicle.
and YAY! another renken owner!! Our family has a 20ft open bow with the merc 5.0v8

My family has a 1976 19ft Renken with the 120merc in it, it has been in the family for around 20 years. While it is well over 1000lbs, I would guess its not that heavy of a boat. I would guess around 1800-2000lbs plus the weight of the trailer.

We have a17 ft Sunbird open bow It has an 90 evinrude on the back of it. Its weight with the trailer included is right around 3500lbs. It didnt like it but we pulled it for 4 years with a little 2wd nissan truck

I towed my 3000lb center console with an xj for a while... they are really decent two vehicles... or find you a cheap F-150 with the straight 6 and be done with it

how far are you towing? i've pulled a boat about that size with a civic for a few miles to a boat slip.... surely a crv could handle it if it was a mere few miles....

I wouldn't do it. I have a Starcraft a little longer than yours, and it weighs about 3k with the trailer. You may be able to get the trailer moving, but stopping will be an issue. Or God forbid you accidentally forget the drain plug when you back it in, or the ramp is wet/muddy, or ...

yes ,, your CRV will pull your new boat...

but for how long,, ''thats the question,,''

get a bigger tow rig, or a smaller boat.

also dont forget about stopping distance...

and be very careful:rolleyes:
