October 1st, Title & registration fees, go WAY up! Just received email from NC Wildlife, last night.
Called them today, to be sure the registration fees, & renewal fees, are one & the same. YES
I was told Wildlife, did not do this, it was part of the new NC Budget, & was just passed, taking all by surprise! New Law, requires Wildlife to transfer 50% of the fees, to a NEW, Shallow Draft Navigation Channel & Lake Dredging Fund!
I ask if I could go & buy a three year sticker, and was told I could only renew within 2 months of anniversary date. I had bought a 1 year sticker,in July. Officer suggested that most boaters, will buy 1 year, from now on, unless fees are reversed.
Example= current 1 year $15, will go to $30, & that's for under 26'
3 yr $ 40, will go to $90
Hope your not over 26', & you have a current 3 year sticker!

My wife told me about this . She does a lot of registrations and titles in Kings Mountain .I am hoping to score a cheap pontoon from someone who says it is too much money.

I like boats and all, but I'm glad I don't own one.

Don't want anyone to take this the wrong way, but considering what it cost me for my old hobby it's still a bargain. :)

$30 for yearly registration for your boat, state wide, any body of water that allows boats.

$30 for a one year trail pass to Uwharrie, and you get to wheel 8 of those 12 months, and that is the ONLY place the pass is good.

$30 for 2 cases of beer that last maybe a week, two if you're conservative.

guess I'm not seeing the issue:confused:

I'm pretty sure the increase is to help pay for the dredging/maintenance of channels at the coast, to me that doesn't seem fair for freshwater only boat owners.

yeah even on my little 10' jon that has never nor will ever see any "channels" at the coast, oh well its gonna be a paddle boat now, no propulsion=no registration

scared to death!!!!!

Yeah, the new rates make no sense. The 1 year rate doubles, the 3 year rate more than doubles. I went ahead and renewed for three years. Who knows if I will still have the boat the next time renewals roll around?

it sucks but i want to keep the channels open.

Hell, it's a boat. I don't make it out of the driveway for less than $100.00

$30.00 ain't gonna break it.

(It does suck for john boats/creek boats. I'd like to see it different for electric only. Going Green!)

Well, the issues, beside the increase, was the way it was done. Most boat owners wont even know this, till they need to renew! Wildlife says they had nothing to do with it, & wasn't even aware of it. Wasn't discussed with them, no public meetings, or comment time. Someone needed money for dredging, & SNUCK it in the Budget Bill, that few read. As usual, a whole group, or class, will pay, for the benefit of
someone else

This is just a small issue, but it makes me giggle, shivver and shake just knowing that I have government (big & little) that will go to any means to look out for my best interests and to keep me safe. I just think I might throw all my guns away in the morning and go get me an Obama/Biden bumper sticker, and a Democrat T-shirt with Barbara Boxer's and Dianne Feinstein's picture on it. :driver: :gitrdun: :birthday:

Not to be political, but the republicans are in power in Raleigh so blame them before Obama. And I don't even like obama or demacrats.

just catching up with cars and trailers , awhile back cars went from $20 to $28 and trailers $10 to $19 , it was just a matter of time , I do not like it but knew the increase would come sooner or later
