Body Shop Recommendations (Charlotte Area)

I need a little advice regarding body shops. A friend was involved in an accident yesterday in his Jeep TJ. His insurance adjuster recommended four local shops (none of which were Jeep dealerships) and also let him know he could choose his own shop. Now the questions:

1 - Is there any benefit having the work done at a Jeep Dealerships body shop?
2 - If not, what should you look for when choosing a body shop?

If anyone has any personal experience (good or bad) with shops in the Charlotte area, feel free to share.
Thanks,
Matt

1- A body shop is a lot like other areas but a lot more so in P&B IMHO
It all depends on the quality and attitude of the individual doin the work. Several body shops in town have awesome P&B guys but also have several jerk-offs. Generally the talent doesn't hang around long as they get tired of doing all the no pay screw-up fixes by the others

2- Experience, experience, experience, plus someone willing to show some work they have done. Custom paint and repair work is an art and it takes time to get good. Fresh outta tech school you can probably paint the hell out of a clean panel. But when it comes to smooth, match and fade work I want someone who has ben around the block.

Close to Charlotte I know a guy in Rock Hill that is amazing. He does everything from Insurance work, to high end customs. And he has a Riddler trophy in his shop.... Nuff said
BTW he is very cmpetitive on rates.
PM me if that is close enough.

My car was recently broken into and had both driver and passenger door locks damaged, I went to B&R body shop on south blvd. I was told it would be a 3 day job to fix the locks and repaint each door. Dropped it off on a monday was told it would be ready wednseday afternoon thursday morning at the latest. Wed. comes around and I call they tell me it will be thursday I was fine at that point and was ok. So I call thursday and they say it will be ready first thing next week. That continues till the next friday a week and half after they said it would be ready, I go to pick it up and guess what the paint on the doors has about six runs in it. I don't accept it and tell them it needs to be fixed then first thing monday morning it was ready. I was patient the whole time if I know anything its not to piss off someone who has your car. I payed my 100 dollar co-pay and left with a car that looked great but took two weeks past the expected date and was done wrong the first time. I will never go there again and will never reccomend them to anyone.

And to answer your question as long as insurance is paying for it I would think the jeep dealership would be the better place to go seeing that the majority of cars they deal with are jeeps. After all was said and done I should have taken it to the ford dealership. (Its a 2002 ranger)

Trav's body shop in Stallings (Matthews) (704) 821-7795.
Great guy, has done work for me for many years.
Tell him Richard Queen sent you.

wilburn body shop, best around, IMHO. made my moms highlander look just like new, after she rear-ended a beamer. a lil expensive, but well worth the work. i know the family personally, they are great people.

I found out kinda late about the accident but I wanted to thank you Matt for posting this. I told Jeremiah this would probably be a good starting point and he told me you were already posting for him. I want to see the heep and what kind of if any front end damage it has, thats kinda got me worried. As for the body, I would think a 12 pack,a hammer and some rustoleum and we could get that thing looking right for once:lol:
Thanx for the replies, we really need a quick turnaround on this;) .

Import Paint and Body on independence. They are the best in charlotte. They handle all of hendrick's high end cars. Pricing isn't bad either. I asked around for the best a few months ago and they were the only place i heard.
