Been looking at gas savers and came across a decent deal on a CRX with some bad cancer. Wondering what it would take to fix rust damage this far gone? How do you do the work and how much $$$ am I looking at?
I had a CRX HF that I drove the crap out of. It got 40 MPG but you had to downshift on the interstate to keep speed on a hill. I think it had a 1.5L wish I still had that lil POS....
That's why I'm considering this thing because it gets 40+ mpg on a bad day. It has 115k and everything works. They're asking $600 but I'm sure I could get them to go for a little less.
How hard is it to clean up the rust and fill the holes with bondo or fiberglass? Is that even what you do or do you have to weld in new sheet metal? As far as I know the only rust it has is around the fender wells. If it's in the subframe or in the engine compartment I'm not touching it.
Does the civics have the same rear quarters? If so I need to go pickup a 90 (I think) civic. It will be going to the scrapper so if the rear wheel wells are in decent shape I can cut them out for a few bucks. Let me know if your interested. I am not sure when I will get it to the house. I have been trying to pick it up for 2 weeks now. I need to pull a couple parts off for another guy as well. Just let me know. With 40MPG's I would be happy to run without A/C LOL.
Keep looking and you'll find a decent Civic for around $1k. May not look great but if it's a beater/DD then who cares. I'd pass on one with that much rust though.
