I'm finally getting around to fixing the rust on my 99 Silverado. It's been a long time coming and I picked up a cowl hood fairly cheap and dropped it off to get painted...that made me think of how much worse the cab corners and rocker panels will look in comparison.

So where are some good places to pick up some good, quality, and hopefully not outrageously expensive, replacement panels? I'm looking over LMC Truck and JC Whitney at the moment.

BTW, it's a 99 Silverado (NBS, of course), reg cab. Needs both cab corners and both rocker panels. I'll probably only do the "outer" rockers. I think the inner panels are most of what causes them to rust out so bad...that and cheap, thin, metal.

Also, I wouldn't mind doing black below the body line. I like the IDEA of Herculiner or something of the sort, but I don't want a rough texture. I want something easy to clean that doesn't stain too bad. I put Herculiner in the cab of my K30 and it's pretty difficult to get dirt out of. I know you can spray bedliners to get a smoother finish, but it's still a somewhat porous material that will almost assuredly trap some filth and be difficult to clean. Any ideas on this one?

I could even go for just some matte black paint I suppose. I think it would look good with the darker gray of the truck.

I got my rockers done in line-x with the UV protection to keep from fading and it comes cleans very easy. If real muddy I rub it with a soapy brush lightly and it cleans right off. It was only 125 per side to have done at line x on Winston on university

Mind posting some close ups? Line X does have a better surface finish than Herculiner, not quite as rough usually. Then again, it's sprayed vs. rolled. 125 a side is WAY cheaper than paint, depending on how it needs to be mixed and how much area I need to cover.

Trying to decide whether to color match or go with black Line X. Opinions? I honestly think either would look great.

Black to me always looks like your trying to "cheaply" cover something. Color match is a much nicer approach

Linex would be way thougher but a friend of mine just done his bumper and lower rockers with plastic dip spray paint. It actually turned out really good and smooth. He's only had it about a month so I have no idea how it holds up but looks way better then I would have ever of guessed. Also he decided to change his bumper up so he took a razor blade and cutout the shape then just peeled off the unwanted plastic dip just like a piece of rubber and the original finish was not harmed at all. So it's cheap enough to try and if u don't like it u can just peel it off.

I will try to snap a better pic but here is the only one I have that shows it somewhat close up

I've been thinking of color matching because if I did black, I would want to get fender flares to sort of tie it all together over the wheel openings. Guess it depends on what the cost will be. Definitely going to check in to it.

Looks good yota!
