What size is almost 1/4x20? It's definately course thread. I ran into this problem with a ceiling fan once before. It's a metric size. Thanks!

BTW - Jeep part number is 06035064 if you can get a description it will say the thread.

Actually, 1.0 is considered "coarse" for an M6 bolt, at least in JIS spec. Not sure about ISO.
1.25 thread would be extremely unusual for an M6 bolt (which is the closest to SAE 1/4").
Even JIS spec where nealy all bolts on cars are 1.25, the M6s are 1.0.

What kind of bolt/application? Maybe somebody happens to know?

Here's a great chart, shows actual dimensions for both SAE and Metric together, fine and coarse.

It's a fan shroud bolt. I finally gave up and drilled it out and put on a nut and bolt.

well that works too

What kind of car?Just curious what it *should* have been.

Is it for those stupid spring nuts? Both my Ram grill and XJs aux fan have them, it seems like 'standard' M6 don't quite fit right, but will hold.
