Hey all, I am moving to App state tomorrow (later today) and am taking my DD Jeep Grand Cherokee with me. Sometime during the school year I hope to begin turning the grand into a more capable 4x4. I was wondering if:
1) There was anyone in or around Boone willing to lend space/assistance every once in awhile (no tools allowed on campus)
2) anyone knew the trails around the area

Thanks

Yeah, maybe I'll see you there. I'm moving my daughter in this afternoon also.
Hands off, I own lots of guns and have lots of friends in high places. :fuck-you:

And friends near:sniper:

Don't forget Mnt City, only 30 mins away and legal wheelin.
last I heard Richland was off limits. Someone posted a pic of the signs at the trail head a while back.

From what I understand, the Signs apply to any land OUTSIDE the trail...

I.E. any land that isnt on the trail itself isnt legal to be on.

And seriously, what are they going to do? If a Cop can get into there and give me a ticket, let me have it, because that would be pretty awesome.

Uhhh, if it's illegal, please don't go there, we're having a hard enough problem keeping wheeling areas open. All someone has to do is call the cops, and he'll just wait for you to leave the trail.

It is def. not legal to ride on some parts of the trail. A freind of mine just got a $250 ticket that said so.

Please keep of illegal trails, hard enough to keep places for us all to wheel at without trespassing. Expesially if your sporting a NC4X4 sticker

App State, huh? I'm sorry. :flipoff2: Can't help it, I went to Ga Southern and the hatred of Furman, App and WCU now runs through my veins.

This is on the back of my XJ.

But aside from all of that, now that you're in college, you may find that you don't have the money to be upgrading the GC, lol. Trust me. I had my '66 Mustang with me down at Southern and I could barely afford to put gas in it and do oil changes, much less "soup" it up. Good luck with your studies!

hm...GA southern?

OHHH thats right, thats one of those teams that LOST to ASU last year! Difficult to remember them ALL since there where so many :flipoff2:

LEGAL TRAILS! little oversight

and as far as money goes, you're probably right but it doesn't hurt to try, I can go without food for a couple of months to buy a lift :shaking:

I'm pretty sure the no tools thing is because students probably like drilling holes in walls and whatever.

hmmm... no tools allowed, i guess the writing wasnt big enough in the handbook... im going to have at least have some tools up there

know of anywhere to park? somewhere that isnt rediculously expensive (would where you work rent out a spot?)

Hahahahahahaha

You're kidding, right?

You're about 4 months behind the time of year to researve an "idea" space.

Good luck with that bro.

BTW, the restriction isn't on HAVING tools - it's on USING them. You can OWN anything that isn't prohibted by law. I used to work on my cherokee all the time, lived in a dorm (East). You just have to be discrete about using them. Find a buddy w/ a house, use their driveway.
I got myself (more or less) involved w/ a church while there that had a "college program", hit the minister up a few times to use his driveway. He was more than willing. In general, as long as you're polite and seem pretty pitiful, people feel sorry for college kids and do what they can to help you out.

Nothing owned by ASU will condone mechanic work, and everything else is purchased. Your best bet is to make friends with someone who rents a house or works at a place that wouldn't mind if you work on your stuff there. You could do some stuff out at the shop where I work, and I'll help if you need me to.

Don't know if they have any left, but you can get a spot at the Red Carpet Inn down 321 for 80 bucks a sesmester. I don't know if you can do work there, but who cares just do it til they stop you. I live in mountaineer village and we don't have any form of parking permits or anything, but if you leave it there for too long there is a strong chance it'll get towed and its a good ways from campus.

App and Boone have never had enough parking and it doesn't look like they ever will. As an 2000 App grad I can give you some advice. ASU has traffic nazis and will ticket and tow you in a heartbeat. So when you think "O I can park it here for just a sec" be expecting a ticket or it towed when you get back. And watch your speed in and around campus, and stop signs near the business building. They have nothing better to do than write students tickets. Parking/traffic enforcement is just another source of revenue for the school.

With that said you will have a blast in Boone lots to do and see. The chicks were super hot when I was there, and a Jeep is a chick magnet in that town. Plus your closed to the Blue Ridge Parkway, skiing, the pretty much every outdoor activity is in or around the area. As for wheeling you used to be able to wheel up on Beech Mtn, that's where we used to go, not sure if they still allow that or not. There also used to be some places in TN to go. And if I'mnot mistaken ASU used to have a 4wd club. I've been back to visit but not to wheel.

As for working on your ride, I'm assuming your a freshmen and if your bringing a car are probably parking out at one of the student lots. The advice to find someone with a house or driveway is great. And whoever said App won't condone working a car was right, but you can do it. If your parked out in BFE and need to make repairs you can, just don't leave it up on jackstands with parts all over the road. The bad thing about this is that all the student parking is super cramped and you won't have a lot of room. Wait till Fri -Sun morning to do repairs in a school lot they will be virtually empty from Thurs night to Sun evening when a ton of people run home for the weekend.

Don't listen to the Georgia Southern guy he's just jealous because they couldn't buy the champioinship last year....who didn't beat Georgia Southern last year. ha j/k Stang.

Thankfully they finally changed that. Now all the revenue from tickets goes back to the state instead of ASU's pocket. You should come back to visit. A lot has changed since 2000......

Yea, yea. We at least made it to 1st round of play-offs. But I will be the first to admit we've had a pretty sucky coaching staff the last 3-4 years. We've got a ALL NEW staff this year, so I'm anxious to see how it goes. See you ASU boys at the GSU homecoming. I'll be there!

I've been back but only for a game now and then. We were living in SC and I only had every other weekend off, which made it hard to get to Boone. We moved to WV now, but I have a lot more free time so we are planning on coming for homecoming, and either the Citadel or Furman game. My dad went to the Citadel and my mom went to Furman, so football season around my family is great. I'd like to come for the home opener but that's not going to work out.

But you are right it has changed leaps and bounds just since we were there. I was of the first class to graduate in the convication center, that was the newest building on campus. There has been a mad expansion since then, dorms, additons to the student union, parking garages. I think its great for the school, but its weird to see it changing too.
