So I am not a tree hugging hippie, but I do care about the environment and I have read a lot of articles about the decline in the bee population, I think a species or two of bee has been placed on the endagered or threatened list now. So i do not like bore bees for all the damage they do to wood structres, but I dont have a problem with "bumble" bees because they pollenate my shrubs and flowers. So how do you tell the difference between the two? I have some azelas bloomong in my yard and i see bumble bees in them, but I also see bore bees in my deck. Is there an easy way to tell them apart?

You need a Red Rider and plenty of reloads

Carpenter bees love to bore holes in decks and scare women/children because they're large and in your face aggressive. If they get in your face, smack the shit out of them w your hand and bounce them off the deck, wall etc. If you hit them hard they'll be dead or brain damaged and will not bother you again. I've never been stung swatting them my hands

Having a cedar sided house, I know all too well the damage carpenter bees (wood boring bees) can cause. This year it was time to re-side the house and I went with fiber cement siding and PVC trim. There are a swarm of confused carpenter bees at my house this year. Apologies to my neighbors as they are now looking for some regular wood siding/trim.

I have the stupid carpenter bees in my deck railing. I've found the best way to kill them is to smack them with your hand, then go step on them. I feel kinda bad doing it, but then I see the pile of wood dust and holes in the railing and I get over it.

I'm building a storage building right now and the guy who sold me the log siding told me to mix NBS30 in with the stain.

Put Sevin Dust in a turkey baster and "puff" it into every carpenter bee hole you see. Bee (get it?) ready for a good time afterword /c they will look like an airplane running out of gas when they come out spitting and sputtering. Me and Emma killed over 30 last spring in the tractor shed. That was a good time!!

I went Mon to get some old barn wood from a barn that had been taken down.I was cutting the ends w nails off, some of them had bore holes in the sides of them. One board I cut a foot off before I got past the bore hole thru the middle of the board.

Dang, I wish I took a pic of the colony that was living in an old playground I got a few years back. It was a rainbow play systems set made of red wood. One of the 4x6 main beams had tunnels all through it. I cut it up to see. It's nuts what they can destroy.

Can't take all the credit...heard @ramjo say that a long time ago and I always thought it was a good one.

Haha, You beat me too it. I wouldn't have included a picture though....that was pretty good!

If you think the carpenter bees are bad, wait until the Red Headed wood pecker the size of a Bald Eagle finds them .
