So i got bored in class the other day since i had finished all my projects and went to figure out the lathe. Havent had much experience on one but i figured out the basics from watching Will and a few others around the shop. Here are a few shifter knobs i made out of Aluminum that was laying around. Not exactly hard core machining but for a little time i had on the lathe i thought they turned out decent.

The 2 on the right are for my stak and are already drilled and tapped. The one on the left is for Austin.

sent me one in the mail.. thanks........ nahh im just kidding.. nice job on them though.

Seems like I saw something like that before. Only it was in my wife's underwear drawer, and it had batteries. Anyone know? ;)

Seriously, pretty nice work for your first time on a lathe! Aluminum's not the easiest thing to cut and get a decent finish on, either.

Sambo...Dave get that feed gear shifter fixed on that first lathe (when you walk in) yet?

I need that...

EDIT: And if you're going to make 2 of the same thing...at least practice making the 2nd one the same dimensions as the first...slacker:flipoff2:

Oh they are very very close Will. :flipoff2: Close enough for me atleast. I dunno if Dave has it fixed yet or not. I used the second one for most of this work. I will check tom for ya. You done yet...slacker? :flipoff2:

I figured you couldnt make Austin any uglier.

The king of slackers got his due date pushed back...now he has all the way til november to wait to finish it :flipoff2:

They second one used to have too much slop in it to get anything done half-way precisely...that and I'd have to stop what I was doing if some moron came in and started turning on the first one for fear of projectiles shooting into my back at the speed of death...

talked to Dave today and he claims its no broken. I dunno. I guess you will have to talk with him. Polished my knobs today though. :flipoff2:
