I picked up a Blazer from a guy two days ago, and when it was run at the scrap yard it came back stolen.

All my paperwork is in order so I am good. After threatening to file charges against the seller he gave me the money back. He said it was on the property when he bought it. I mostly believe him.

After talking to the DMV officer I found out it was stolen out of Raleigh in 2001. Thing was in pretty good shape. I almost kept it and pulled the interior out of it for mine.

so what happens with a vehicle like this?

DMV will send a PIN message to the original agency that took the report. Then that agency will either attempt to make contact with the owner, or forward the contact info to DMV and let them do it.

Right now the DMV is investigating. I have a feeling that the insurance paid off on it 20 years ago, and they will probably not want it back, then it will go in the u pull yard.
It sits on the thief's property for 21 years until some redneck comes to scrap it.
According to the GIS on the property the guy purchased it in 2006, so it was stolen for 5 years before he bought the place.

The report is so old that literally all the DMV guy has is a report number for the VIN. They are having to do some digging to find anything else.

Dang...what year blazer? I'm always looking for S10 parts now :D

Yeah it goes in about 2 year increments.

You go on the gis site and use historical imagery.

Bingo. Doesn't do anything to help you, but it does help pinpoint if the dude was lying or not. It's one thing to steal something, but then to lie about it to you, that's just bad form.

I'm curious how you got several different years going back that far
Assuming its in Gaston County...As aggravating and useless as Gaston County may be, they actually have a really good GIS website:

It's super cool to look at the historical stuff and see how it's changed.

Yeah our county has aerial photos from the 30's. Pretty neat to see where the roads used to be before the state took everything over and started paving.

I have a friend with a daughter that is locked in mental intuition, for the rest of her life. He had picked up her car at the time of her arrest. It's a piece of shit, that still has about $500 owed on it. It's been sitting four years now. He called the loan co. to try to get the title. They wont release it without payoff. He doesn't have the money & it's not worth more than Scrap price. He told them four years back, his daughters situation, and told them to come get the POS. They wont come get it! He's afraid to try scraping it. What do you Do?

Maybe I'm biased because I'm used to Burke but every time I've used Gaston county GIS I've hated it. I personally think it's even shittier than Mcdowell.

I think here in Ky. the lien is only good for 6 or7 years. That is what the person at the county clerk's office said. Take it to the junkyard and see if they take it or sell it to uncle willie he will buy stolen junk.. lol.
