So, yeah, just bought my first house. It's kind of exciting and it'll be soooo nice when it's just me and my dog. I like silence, cleanliness, and finding things in the same place as I left them. I'm 24, so it was about damn time anyway.

Short of getting a washer/dryer, a bed, more furniture, and kitchen stuff....I'm pretty well good to go. I'm hoping they'll be done soon and I can move in mid-December. The back half was just set up today, they're bringing the front in the morning, and then they can commence to marrying them.

Can't say enough good things about Oakwood Homes in Morehead, NC. They've been great to deal with and Oakwood/Clayton/Schultz homes are quality items! I went with a 28x52 double wide in their "Rocketeer" model. It's sweet! Feel free to check it out on their website.

Now I just need to build a nice back porch and start planning the house warming party :D

Thanks!

Congrats on the new place, I hope you have better luck with that house warming party than I did...6 months in, it still hasn't happened. I bought most of my original furniture off Facebook yardsale pages and miscellaneous for sale sections like this forum has. Only thing I actually bought new was a king bed frame (got it for market price or whatever it's called) and a big ass sectional couch with massage/cooling/heating (hindsight, a recliner would have been good enough). Ended up filling up a 3 bedroom (to the point of now giving stuff away), 2300 sq/ft house for only a few grand. I figure I saved 4-5 grand on appliances and 10 grand on furniture. We're talking a washers/dryer set for $300 and is 2-3 years old that's $1500 at Lowes, 8ft dining room set for $600 that was 2k, leather furniture that was cheap cheap cheap (some folks were moving, others just wanted to change the color of a room). Hell, I even bought Serta memory foam mattresses (king, queen and a twin), still in the plastic at auction for under $700 for all of them. I say that, just to point out, it's not that difficult to find great deals on furniture and appliances second hand.

Congrats and welcome to the madness! Like Ed said, you can find washer/dryers cheap on CL. Also look for scratch and dent sales if you want new stuff. I got a brand new set of (heavily) scratch and dent LG steam washer/dryer for $900. They retail for $1200 each.

Congrats and welcome to home ownership! I'm 28 and I've owned my place since I was 24. I've got a double wide on 1.5 acres in blythewood/ridgeway in Fairfield county south Carolina. I never thought my work travel would allow me to ever own anything but I got lucky and this little jewel fell in my lap for $32k ready to move into. Words of wisdom and please listen... Do not get married and have kids anytime soon! Enjoy the bachelor life and its rewards! Let me know when you have your house warming party, I'd love to drive the TJ up and hang out!

I bought a double wide 2 years ago when I was 23. What I had them do was add in 5k to the loan for lowes card so then I just went and bought all the appliances and also built my own decks saved me thousands over what they wanted to have someone build them for. Got lucky on mine and got a demo model it came with all the furniture even some dishes and silver ware

Make damn sure you punch it out before the crew leaves for the last time and don't sign the acceptance paperwork until all the items are corrected. Otherwise, you are shit out of luck! ;)

Congrats and I'll surely crash the house warming party when you do it! :D

/\ what he said crawl under and make sure they've hooked up all the pluming lines right. I've been under a few and they were to lazy to cut a piece down so they zigg zagged the pieces

congrats on being a home owner. I bought my first house last fall and I love being able to have a house that is mine. its been over a year and I still haven't had my house warming party....

Congratulations! The people at your local Lowes will know your face and possibly your name by this time next year, lol.

Go to Lowes and get a roll of blue (or any other color) painters tape. Anything on your punch list, put a piece of tape on that part of the house. It makes the punch list go alot easier. I used to work construction and the tape makes it easier to find the issues that the customer wants fixed.

Congrats on home ownership! It can be a beast at times, but beats the hell out of having to deal with a landlord (I own rental property too). At least you will be building equity in your own property instead of building the landlord's bank account.

X2 on what others have said. You can find some good deals on Craigslist. Also a lot of good deals with black Friday coming up too.

congrats Jake, this is good news... hope you have a big enough yard for all your toys.

The lot is 2.34 acres and it was Free fifty free, so I couldn't pass on the price! I just wish it wasn't a swimming pool right now with the 3-4 inches of rain we're currently getting. I'm going to get the mini excavator back in there as soon as it warms up and see if I can remedy the issue :D I'll also need a few loads of dirt and some rock to get the driveway and front yard squared away. I picked up a reclining couch/love seat 2 weeks ago for 500 bucks, less than a year old. Yesterday afternoon I met a guy outside the Cherry Point main gate and picked up a Whirlpool washer/dryer set for 350 bucks. They're about a year and a half old. The rest of the appliances are already in the house and ready to go. If it wasn't for this rain, they could have the halves put together and at least be working on the interior, but stuff happens!

I'm going to give it a few weeks, it'll probably be after the first of the year or whenever it decides to dry up some, but I'm planning to run up to Builder's Discount Center and check out the deck packages they have. We did one on the back of my sister's house and it's been a good one. I want a good sized back porch, but I'll probably keep the front porch fairly small. They build 5x4 "decks" with steps and hand rails unless you specify that you want something else built.

I'm not worried about something not getting done. I stop by there every afternoon after work and I'm off on Fridays, so they know me VERY well! It's a mile from where I live now with my parents and instead of taking a right after crossing the railroad tracks, I just go straight. It's not like it's out of my way or anything :D

@hoop You passed me while I was loading up the couch and love seat! I didn't realize it was you until I talked to my buddy Eric over at Colony Tire and he said you had the YJ done. I was right there on North Craven street with my truck and trailer.

I'll definitely be having a party, regardless of the gift giving. I could actually care less about all that formality. I just need to buy a bed frame, mattress, kitchen table, and some bar stools. That'll cover my furniture for now. Of course, I'll pick up dishes, silverware, and what not. Oh, and beer!

Oddly enough, my birthday and address are the same. I always thought that was cool. 413 and 4-13 :huggy:

Congrats Jake! Had I known it was you on North Craven I would have stopped. Good luck with getting everything in and of course if you need any kind of help just drop me a line I'm local. Make sure you post up that housewarming party so some of these NC4X4 folks can get together. Don't forget I work for a beer distributor, might be able to help you out ;-)

Too bad you work for the wrong one!

Only for some, Those with discriminating taste consume our products !:fuck-you:

Miller Time! :flipoff2:

Actually, I don't care what you bring as long as its free!

Let me know in advance...a LOT of people drink Budlight !! Keg boxes are your best friend at a party !

We're getting there! Water is hooked up, shitter pipe is hooked up, everything is ready for the City of New Bern to run the power and put the meter in the new box, and they'll start blocking the perimeter on Monday. The interior guy has a little bit left to do as far as trim work and drywall/paint, but only another day or two, then they can start cleaning real good. I'm fixing to go pick up the tractor and clean up around the front yard a little. If any of yall get to feeling froggy, there's still another 2 acres to clear :D I have 40+ BIG, tall, and very straight pines that need to get gone. I need to find somebody to cut them and haul them off so I can get some money out of them.
