98 Suburban. Had the left side indicator start blinking fast last week. Bought some bulbs. Last night the right side started blinking fast. Got son to check and I have no brake lights and no blinkers. Third brake light works. Replaced the bulbs and neither works still. Anybody had this problem? Gonna start with the ground but don't know yet where to look. Next will check the switch on the stalk.

^^x2 turn signal switch is the culprit.

I know this sounds too easy, have you replaced the blinker? Looks like A small can, in fuse box.

Your brake lights have to go through the turn signal switch because it uses the same element for both brakes and turn sigs. This is a very common GM problem even up to 2002. Had a buddy with a Pontiac sunfire that did exactly what you're discribing. Turned out to be the turn signal switch.

BE VERY CAREFUL what wires you disconnect, if you break the connection to the ignition switch, you will set the passlock security system and you will not be able to start the truck. It will be a trip to the dealer and an hour of diag/repair time. The reset takes 20 minutes and use of the GM scan tool.

There is a way to do it without it, but it is time consuming and difficult to do ( by design )

After I figured out the signal lights are the middle bulb not the top I figured out that they were both so corroded that they wouldn't operate. What are the chances that they both become so corroded that they stop working within a week of each other. I should have known. It's happened before but not both at the same time.
