Broke stud removal suggestions

To make a long story short I have a 99 Dakota with a 318. Manifolds were rusted beyond use to I removed them to put headers on. The passenger side manifold bolts didn't have enough head on them to get them out, so I torched off the head and pulled the manifold off. I tried removing them and 3 of them broke off. I've tried welding nuts to them, and now I've drilled them and tried an easy out. It felt like it was turning but it was the easy out twisting so now there's an easy out broke off in one.

Anybody have any other suggestions before I take the head off and take it to a machine shop? I'm really not wanting to have to disassemble the motor.

I believe it's time to pull the head! Saw a new product, by Lock Tight; called Freeze Release. Must be a liquid nitrogen, that shrinks the part, & bust any rust loose. Only exhaust studs I've pulled, were on the manifolds, where the pipes hook up. I've had to hold a torch to the manifold, while using vice grips, to turn out the stud. I've broken those easy outs, also. Good luck!

It's been a busy few days. Thanks for the info. I'll try the freeze release. Anything is worth trying before I pull the head. I'm not in a hurry to do it so I'm going to try anything I can before I pull the head.

Try heating it with a torch til its red then take a candle and stick to it until its not glowing red anymore some how the heat pulls the wax down into the threads.

take a cold chisel and try to make a dent in it so you can hammer it in the direction to remove it.

then heat it up real good and shoot it with some pb blaster. similar to the candle before mentioned. it will pull the blaster down in the threads.

then get to whacking with the chisel when it cools down.

good luck that sounds like a beee-otch

That was one of the first things I did.

If you can keep welding nuts to the studs the will come out. I do exhaust work for a living they will come out it may take twenty tries.
