OK, rear main seal went out on the Bronco, and tranny is screwed. I'm runnin 3 options thru my head, thinkin of which one would be best. Maybe you guys can give me some input.
1) Replace rear main seal and tranny, and sell it, and buy a newer Bronco
2) Find a new(er) 351 or built 302 and swap it in.
3) Rebuild the current motor.
4) Fix it, sell it, and try to find a 78/79 Bronco with a 351, 400, or 460, and build that up.

Really not sure which way im goin to go. Help me out here guys!

You could try a big block motor swap with new transfer case and transmission in your 88. The swap is real easy and all you really need is engine mounts and tranny mounts.

My brother and I have a 1978 f150 parts truck with a 351M c6 and np205 that cranks and runs with a little smoke. A 351M is a destroked 400 so you could make it a 400 by swapping the crank. Do you want to sell the messed up tranny, cause I need parts. How much are you looking to get for the Bronco in it's current condition.

IS it a dd or trail rig? That would determine how much i was spending on it.

Its a DD. Not as much of a trail rig as a mud rig, but i know yall dont like mud around here. Either way i am going to put the new tranny and seal in, so with everything fixed, i would like to get $3500 or so. Hyperlite, once i get the new tranny in, i will let you know.

You aughta get a 78-79 bronco for a parts truck and swap in both axles and the engine Tcase and trans. I know guy that did this in a 90 bronco and his truck is awsome in the mud.
PS not everybody around here dislikes mud. Im quite fond if it myself.

i also have a newer model bronco with beginning stages of tranny problems,i also have a 79 parts bronco with the 400/c6/205 and a 78 f150 wiht a 460/4speed/205 both parts trucks are complete, i just havent decided which way to go yet.

Go for the 78 79 there a lot more fun had a 86 now have a 79 with 351m and its so much more fun than the newer models

Man you guys dig up some old threads.

i suppose i should have paid attention. i guess gas was a lot cheaper 2 years ago and hemight have had a shot at selling that bronco for 3500.
