How is the one and half trails open for 4x4's at Brown Mtn? Never been there but I keep thinking a day trip in the middle of the week to do the trail might be something to do. Just wondering how the trail is? Graded? Rough? Rocky?

Trail is mild, but still better than not wheelin! It's one of the few places I don't mind going without a second vehicle with me.

Several park rangers have told me and friends, on several occasions, that "if you can fit down a trail (in the Jeep), go for it!" I wouldn't head down a trail marked dirt bikes only, but might consider one marked for atvs. Their reasoning is that a Jeep/Sammy isn't much bigger than some of the side-by-sides. One ranger did recommend turning on the headlights, as some of the dirt bikes are really zipping along, and it might help them to see you sooner.

I will start by saying that I haven't been to brown in at least 5 years.

The last time I was there IIRC that the only approved truck trail was Trail 1.

I came around a corner once and had to scoot up onto a bank because there was an old Cherokee Chief in the middle of a 4 wheeler trail. I don't think they were supposed to be there and I wonder who's insurance would pay if I broke my arm and totaled my bike on grill. I roosted the dude pretty good when I came off the bank.

If the only trail legal to have a truck on was Trail 1 I would not go. If I am wrong please let me know and I will tow down there and ride because it would be fun on some of the 4 wheeler trails.

Brown Mountain would not be the only thing. I like FS roads that are open for scenic drives too

Is this one more like Sampson / Richland Rd. or like 105? I'm gonna head up to the Little Switzerland area this weekend and explore some. Hopefully we can find some dirt roads. Anyone know of any. Legal of coarse.
