BS hitch laws and responsibility question

A nice chat with the responding officers capt. is in order also.
The officer dropped the ball and took the lazy way out.
Even more so if there is no report whatsoever.
There will still be a record of him being there.
He's has a reaming out with his name on it.
At this point, after you talk to his capt. and his capt. talks to him,
he will probably blame the Pope if you say he did it.

Update,
Had taken the truck to the dealer to check out. If course they had it a week and the service writer wrote it up so the text thought it was warranty so it was "within spec" after them having it a week and not on the road, gotta have a delivery truck.

It got hit at 9b in charlotte while stopped for traffic, let the smoke out of the wiring in the cab evidently, may not have to worry about the vibration at this point. Ugh could not happen to the 2003 flat bed, has to be the new truck.

I do believe that Renegade is toast... as are the driver's pants.

Anyone want some jeep parts,
Yes I'm sure it came from you, knowing who you sell to.

Owner said he should have bought a Ford, they would total it for sure, not so sure about the Chevy

Yeah it is but we already took a loss on depreciation and now it's been in an accident (reported) so how much more we would lose to sell it now. That's why the owner wished it was totaled, we'll see but I'll bet it isnt,.....truck is on the road 8hrs a day, unfortunately those odds are not in our favor.

Oh side thought..... if you can hang material 24" out the back with no ticket,

It can extend up to 4 feet out the back before it needs to be marked with a red or orange flag. Cant extend more than 14 feet out. NCGS 20-117. :)

I've always thought anything hanging out more than 14ft was ridiculous... I'm glad our legislators came up with a good, no-nonsense number like 14ft

So I guess 30' studs flagged on a ladder rack are legal? Not recommended but legal. That is good news, I'll make sure all our drivers have that statute.

Probably has more to do with specialty and log trailers than ol mr shortbed toting 2"x4"x16s around
2x4x21's brah.

"At no time shall a load extend more than 14 feet beyond the rear of the bed or body of the vehicle, with the exception of vehicles transporting forestry products or utility poles."

Also, looks like the log trailers get a pass.

Log trailers get a pass on ALOT of things. I’ve seen some sketchy trucks, trailers and loads leaving logging jobs.

I'm sitting here trying to figure out WTF you could ever have hanging off the back of a vehicle by > 14 feet (other than logging vehicles).
Thats like the length of a whole car.

I guess they want to leave plenty of room to work with. I mean, in case 13 feet isn't enough.

Im guessing its written that way to allow a 20' board to be strapped into a 6' truck bed

because... thats a good idea?

36' Studs on a ladder rack, 20' truck and they would be hanging back 16' if you don't hang them over the front bumper.
We have moved 32's but it is a rare occasion, usually have them delivered by a supplier and cut them up if there are a few extra left over.

I can't see it on a std bed 8' or even a 12' flat bed but maybe a 16' flat bed. Material would most likely be bent by the time you get anywhere.
