I have a 96 xj that building. I was wondering if y'all had any tips for building a jeep on a budget? I'm new to building but not new to wheeling them :D

Thanks

Got any mods/upgrades so far? Planned use for the Jeep (DD, wheeler, beach cruiser, etc) cause this will give us an idea of what upgrades you need. Give us more details on the Jeep itself and what you want to do with it and we'll give you some suggestions.

im sorry what was the ? again? i was too caught up in your motto lol.. but yes. there are alot of guys/gals that can give you free advice on here. just x3 on the info

Yea its got a 6in lift in the back and like 5in in the front. I'm putting coilovers in the front to level it out. The fenders r trimmed some and id like to put fender flares but I don't wanna have to pay 500 for them. I need a new grill. Well really I need a new front clip. New shocks in the front. I wanna swap the back brakes to disc brakes. I have a flow master exhaust but the piece that connects to the header is pinched in and I wanna fix that. I wanna swap the axle. I'm just trying to find out what's the cheapest way to do this but I'm will to spend more money where needed.

Thanks

Best bet for the rear disc brake conversion would be to swap in a Ford 8.8 from an Explorer. You can find them at about every junkyard for around $100. If you have stock 3.55 gears in your XJ now, it should be easy to find a 8.8 with matching 3.55 gears. You may even luck up and find one with a limited slip differential, not as good as a real locker but nice for a DD/mild wheeler.

:nopics:Jk just wanna see what ya got...

Happy??...geeze....lol

Yup sorry didnt realize you had em in ya album already!!! good lookin xj tho...

Is that a Dana 35 rear or a 8.25 27 spline?

I know you can swap ZJ disc brakes over to an XJ with minimal work.

V8 ZJ (Grand Cherokee) steering is a great and cheap upgrade, about $20 at the local junk yard.

Good looking jeep, see you on the trails sometime.

Ok thanks....and I hope so right now its gettin a motor put in it

Sounds like you've got your hands full as it is, I thought I read you were going to Uwharrie tomorrow in another thread, our group is in Greensboro and gets together all the time, almost every week we get together for beers and grub, usually someones working on thier junk, so if your ever out this way give me a hollar. We have been to Uwharrie a few times recently, but we are going to the Lexington Mud Pits this sunday if you get the jeep done and wanna come out.

That's sounds great.....and yea I went to ure in our sidekick...its got 2" blocks with 2" spacers and a set of 31s ...damn thing crawled pretty good too I was pretty surprised...lol....still want my jeep back tho

Haha I was startin to wonder if there were any other nc4x4 fans in oakboro...I was really worried bout it...lol... thanks

the rear axle is the cheapest axle to upgrade. some 8.8's have 410 and limited slip. but then you'd need front gears. thats about 500 at a shop, unless you know a gear person. then about 250 and a case of beer , pizza, and a few laughs.

seeing yous pic, long arms would help greatly. the rough country ones are the cheapest. i had probelms with the bushings, but they suposedly changed them. (i had them a few months after they came out)

idk if your jeep doesnt have a/c the doorless mod is always nice and a head turner (EXPECIALLY IF A CHICK IS DRIVING)
