im tryin to lift my xj about 8" to 10". i dont have alot of money to work with and tryin to get some ideas on how to get big for the cheap. shoot me some ideas!

what are your plans for tire size and axle combo? what are you trying to build your xj to do? also are you stock right now? i would look at the road blocks guys ran into installing their upgrades before installing yours (don't know your experience level). there is alot of companies that offer good suspension upgrades (T&T customs, rubicon express, iron rock offroad, clayton and others). to go big for cheap is kind of a oxymoron but you could piece together kits. some companies you can buy separate coils, leaf springs and long arm kits( ironman4x4.com) if you are wanting that much lift, then you might as well get a long arm kit. if you search the forums there are alot of guys who post the experiences they've had with the suspension they are using or have used. i had a 6.5" rough country lift. one of my leaf springs broke so i replaced it with iron rock offroad leaf springs and shackles, awesome product and price. from what i've been told by more experienced XJ owners is that 5.5 to maybe 7 is plenty enough (with some fender triming) to do alot. hope this helps.

with that much lift it'll be way to top heavy. usually 5.5 inches is what most offroaders run.
with proper trimming and bumpstopping you can run 35" tires and love the low center of gravity.

but if you plan on driving this to the mall or school (dont know your age) then thats up to you, just cant be speeding. lol

with that much lift, no matter what kit you buy, the stock steering will be an issue. the drag link will max out quick, and the tie rod will hit the sway bar links

In my opinion 8 inchs of lift dosnt equal cheap, I would think you would have to do:

Trackbar
steering
control arms
Springs
brake lines
driveshafts
SYE ( Unless you get lucky )
bigger tires $
Stronger axles if ya have a D35 ( Unless its road only)
Then gears unless you just wanna drive backroads ( and have no ass )

All that adds up quick Especially if you pay someone.

Then again your cheap might not be my kind of cheap

I would go with what the others said. keep it around 5 inchs, it will get top heavy.

To each his own it would look cool though

Hope my opinion helps

12" chevy leaf springs front and rear, 10 bolt axles from a 89 k5 blazer, and 44" Ground hawgs, sounds in order. Just use some 4" tubing nipples from Lowe's and longer bolts to drop the transfer case down. Put'em between the frame and transmission crossmember. :wheel:

ive been wheelin for alitte over a year and ive ben as big as 33s and i had 5" shackles with 3" blocks but as most xjs are the leafs are bent and i have zj front coils with 2" spacers. i have alot of fender triming done. i just bought some 38.5x16 swapers from a friend and just tryin to have enough flex room. im mostly in the mud but im tryin to get in to rock crowlin. i have a d44 front and ford 9" rear. so im pretty good on axles.

the axles arnt really strong enough for 38.5" tires, but depending on the skinny pedal they could hold up.

if you bump stop right they could be ran on 6" lift

i got a buddy that has been runnin the same axles and same tires for almost a year and hasnt had a problem out of them and he strongly belives in the skinney pedal. i really appreciate all the info guys.
