When building a project alot of things can be thrown together with whatevers lying around but when it comes to things that effect safety and reliability that's not where id save my money. Suspension effects both of those best case is the tube breaks and your stranded until a trail repair gets you out of the woods and worst case it breaks causing a rollover or crashing into a tree or kid on an atv killing one or multiple people my point being is risks are inherent in our sport but it is our responsibility to mitigate them as much as possible.as far as cheap dom is concerned im not sure near you. P.s. sorry for the rant build is looking good
 
the schedule 80 (2" dia or so)will be plenty strong for a rig that light. the dom would be better, but then again some heat treated chromo links would be even better. i would be more worried about the toyota ring and pinion breaking behind that 350 than the schedule 80 links.
 
I know about the safty part of it. That is why i asked cause tons of ppl are using it here for there mud trucks and the do ure a few times a year.

My rigs end weight is gonna be around 2500lbs..

As far as the axles go my buddie has the same axles with 37s behide a 383 and they have held for years.

schedual 80 is 2" thick wall stuff. I might use that for full mock up untill i can get sum D.O.M. pipe. Stuff is kinda not cheap and im alrdy in this build about 2grand.
 
hey quick question. Im running dual transmission mounts, Can i mount my long arms right to the frame or do they have to be offset to the inside of the frame on transmission mount.
 
DOM ain't cheap!

I have no idea on sch 80 for strength. I know plenty of guys who have made links out of square steel that is like 3/8" thick. If it were me I would run the sch 80 and see how it works. Worst case is you swap it out for the DOM down the road.
 
if i had a grand or more id buy dom but i cnt get it for no less then 900 bucks plus shipping i dont have that kinda money. Im gonna run 80 for the time being and when i save up enuff ill buy it.

coes anyone have any 3link/4link/ylink setups for toyota axles. I got mine mocked up so it is kinda rolling but i have no room on the outside of my mock up axles mounts for coils. idea input here please.

This is just to keep it rolling around the shop untill i find a setup that will work and i like

The controls arms going up and down are for the hight of my coils to show how tall the rig is going to sit. The long arms are mock up to put the axles where i want them to go. lil flex test to see it they would work and it did
 
Here's what I can tell you. A buddy of mine here in Newport has a Toyota and looked at putting coil springs under the front of his 80 something model and the coils springs would not fit. On the other hand with lots of research on here, yota tech and pirate he found out coil over springs, air shocks or leaf springs are all you can use. As far as your DOM tubing, I have a 20 foot section of 120 wall 1 3/4" if you want to buy it here in Newport. $110.00 if you want it. Let me know.

Here is one idea ive got mount my lower buckets right to the top of my control arm mounts on axle.

The build is still here Ive changed back to left packs and started the frame fitting for small block and all, I will get photos asap. sry i got a new car and had to put a supercharged motor in it so bug went to back burner
 
well guys the time has come i have to stop build due to lack of money.
it is up for sale buy everything for 900 cash.
