Ok I am going to take a chance and open this up for opinion. I know everyone will have their own opinion as to what I should do but lets not get carried away.

Basically I am interested to see if anyone is running a similar set up. Originally my buggy was built around an all toyota drivetrain. 22re with turbo 5 speed trans backed up by a toyota doubler with 4.7's in the front box and stock rear box. I was very happy with how the buggy preformed as it was. However I guess I needed a project and when the 22re finally let go I decided on a motor swap instead of a rebuild.

So now... I have everything in place and mocked up running a SBC 350, with a turbo 350 automatic trans adapted to the toyota doubler. Is anyone run this set up or know anyone who does?... im still in an early enough phase of the project where i can make changes. Anyone foresee any big problems? should the crawl box stay or go? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Kinda looks like two questions.

1. Should you go with 350-350 - Yes I run that set up and love it. You can do anything with a yota motor, but it's more fun with a healty V8.

2. Will the yota t case hold up - I have been told they will, but have seen them break behind a turbo 22re. I wouldn't trust it. Maybe if you like to crawl, but that's not why you upgraded to a V8. Get a 203-205 which is about 2 to 1 in each or double 4 to 1. With a auto trans a doubler isn't as important. I ran a Dana 300 which is about 3 to 1 and loved it. Eventually I upgraded to a klune V to get the slow crawl though.

i would put the 4.7 in the rear if you must keep it. You will want to upgrade input and output shafts too.

I would do yota to d300 w/ 4.7 in the yota if ya wanted... best of both worlds

sorry I did say that wrong in the original post. the 4.7 is in the rear case. The front also has an upgraded 23 spline chromoly input. I do kinda want to keep the toyota cases, mainly because the cage was designed around them. Its pretty tight as is. I'll try to get some pictures up. Front driveshaft is the trickiest. I have already had to raise the cases about 2.5" for the shaft to clear the pan.... not sure i am assuming the other t-case options would be even wider and more difficult to squeeze into the belly of my rig.

What axles are under the rig?

if you have the 23 front imput in both cases you should be fine but them again idk i broke a 21 spline with the 22re with 40s and tons...with a heavy right foot but i never broke a 23 in my other truck with the v6 on 40s

I'd be tempted to go with a D300 with 32 spline front and rear outputs and a low gear set.
