Burying untreated wood...

This is a good topic. I need to build a leanto for covered storage, and have a few down pines, from the storms. I am planning to cut out the straight sections and bury them for the posts. I will also plan to coat them before setting in concrete.

Which side of greenville is your land? Seems like I saw them replacing poles a little while back on the other side of Ayden.

How big of a shelter are you trying to build. I'm in a similar predicament. I plan to build a shop/barn in the next year or two when prices come down and my money is back right, so I didn't want to spend $3g on a permanentish shelter that I'd have to tear down later. That's why I went with a cheap carport shelter. I want some cows and the wife wants goats in the future so I figured I could pretty easily pick up the carport and move it out to the field for cows or goats when the time comes.
Im on the SE side of Greenville, not far from Ayden. They have been doing a lot of utility work recently. I may reach out but it’s not a huge priority at the moment.
Last resort is a cheap carport to protect the tractor.

I can get you a pail of BASF HLM5000 which is a rubberized asphalt waterproofing for below grade. Cost your tree bottoms in that, add stone to the bottom and rock out.

Rob...using freshly downed trees is a bad idea.
They havent dried out. So as they dry they will shrink which will pull and distort your dimensions or twist.

When did they stop making tractors waterproof? Yall are a bunch of wussies.

Yeah I know. It’s temporary so I’m not as worried about it. But it’s also an experiment to see what works. If I don’t do it right, it’s more temporary than expected.

They leave them outside at the dealerships for months on end, but if mine gets caught in the rain I feel like I've done something wrong

@rockcity I'd be more worries about a methhead dragging it off one night than it getting rained on!

i want to protect the investment so I only buy once and can give it to whichever kid I like the most when I pass on.
Ah, like my 1960 Massey 35? Or my dad's 40-something 8N Ford?

Wussies :flipoff2:

FIFY

I mean - a good, thick tarp is pretty inexpensive by comparison.
If you're already gonna half-ass your storage method... don't bother.

Half-assing anything is stupid. Whole-ass it instead.

Well, did you bury any wood this weekend? It was valentines day.

i'll see myself out.
Ya know, every time I read this thread title, I thought about posting something to this effect. I'm glad someone finally did it!

Ok, the RV carport thread got me thinking...

I want and need something for the tractor and RV but don’t necessarily need to spend the $$$ on a high building or even tall treated posts.
I'll be honest, even though you said you didn't need a high building or tall posts, I expected it to be a little larger...

Drywall silt fence? Y'all do some weird things down there

My last 3 trips to lowes I've bought stuff that just doesn't belong together. Purchases my last trip were:

2 QO circuit breakers
1 BR breaker
4 handy boxes
2 500' spools 14 ga. solid copper (1 black, one green)
4 at 10' 3/4 pex
a handful of 3/4 PVC fittings.

I felt like everybody was watching....and afraid I might become a DIY meme.

I bought a tub drain kit and seven 2x6s yesterday. That was my second trip. The first called for a 1/2" pex elbow fitting and a pack of set screws. All of this for the same project.

This is funny. I have that DIY homeowner feeling and not the pro GC recently.

all my tools (saws, nail guns, etc) are piled into the back of the wife’s Denali. My F350 is having some sort of electrical issues, so I’m using the wife’s car instead. Anyway, roll outside with packs of 5’ stakes and a 4x12 sheet of drywall to load in a Yukon xl. It was comical.

Wait, so now this mini tractor shed has a drywall roof? I'm out.
