Buttering the bread before toasting is king
Yeah I agree but you gotta be a high roller w/ a toaster oven or making enough to justify an oven.Buttering the bread before toasting is king

Just can't seem to make this or cheese toast work in my 20 year old popup toaster
yep. Its just hard to account for the time to heat up an oven just for that, and I'm so tight on counter space we can't justify the toaster oven.Ah, cheese toast is a world of its own. Introduced my kids to it years ago and it seems it’s all they want now.
yeah, we had one awhile, but we have a galley kitchen w/ very little counter space, it didn't get used enough to justify the footprint.
The thing about buttering afterwards is that you end up w/ crunchiness cooked flavor on both sides. Pre-buttered prevents the top from bowning, so its more like a marriage of the inards of a buttered roll and toast.I've done both and regularly switch it up because I'm still not convinced one way is better than the other.
Can you cook that in a hotel room? That’s how you catch a toaster on fire, so I hear…
Edited just for youWe're missing the "both" option here. Some of us have a physique to maintain
I appreciate it! This thread has been inspirational. Current state:Edited just for you
X2. Different flavors completely. The thing about buttering afterwards is that you end up w/ crunchiness cooked flavor on both sides. Pre-buttered prevents the top from bowning, so its more like a marriage of the inards of a buttered roll and toast.
We got that one, too....very versatile.

thats grilled bread. There's no toasting happeneing,Y’all need to take it to another level, you hadn’t had real buttered toast until you have it on a griddle, throw some butter on a hot griddle then throw toast on butter and cook till you see your favorite color on toast emerge, your welcome

Grilled cheese is a different story though bc cheese is in the middle and both sides of the bread are gonna get cooked anyway.X2. Different flavors completely.
Grilled cheese has the same decision, as well. Do you brown/ toast the bread before adding the cheese or not? I prefer it and grilled pimento cheese to be toasted first when eating with soup, as it adds a crunchy element, and is better for dipping, IMO. But otherwise, soft with loads of butter in the pan.
