Does anyone know what hoops Iwould have to jump through if I bought a car in SC and then try to title here in NC? Does a SC title need to be notarized?

Not really different than buying one here in NC. I bought my Tacoma in SC. SC does not require titles to be notarized therefore NC does not need it to be notarized. Fill the title out when you buy it and take it to the DMV when you get home.

You would just have to get the car inspected in NC before you could register it.

Mine had to be inspected.

I bought a 03 Benz from SC 3 weeks ago. The woman at the Thomasville DMV told me I had a year to get it inspected. Maybe she was wrong, but I got a tag issued and I never got it inspected. Who knows maybe a letter will be showing up soon from the DMV.

Get it inspected if you want, but every vehicle I've bought in the past few years (which is more than a handful), I've went straight to the tag office and walked away with a tag.

You'll have to pay nc taxes on the sale price when you tag it.

You only pay tax on sale price if it came from a dealer , if bought from an individual then you pay sales tax on what the DMV says it's worth in their system.
And they don't call it a sales tax, but a HUT - highway use tax. But it is based on value so there is no real distinction.

And I second that vehicles from out of state get a pass on the inspection for a year. There is nothing in the system to log it against until it's registered in NC.
