buying a car out of state

i might be gettin a vehical that is out of state what do i have to do to get it tagged in nc im buying it from texas. thanks

Take the title to the DMV and they will transfer it like any other. You just have to have it inspected within a certain timeframe after you recieve the plates. At least thats what they did for me when I got the M3 from GA a few years ago.

1) Make sure the seller signs the title EXACTLY as their name is printed on the title.
Mr. John Joe Bob Larry Jones... Needs to sign it all out...

2) As silly as it is, I've had people sign in the wrong spot.

3) Find out if Tx is a notary state. Had people sign their title but with no Notary stamp = Start over with new title or 'fix it' some other way..

4) LIENS, if there are any make sure they are signed on the title (if you can, some states you need a form) or there is accompanying signed statement releasing that VIN# (usually from bank etc)

5) Damage Disclosure form for <5 years old - http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/forms/vehicleregistration/download/mvr181.pdf

6) Possibly take and/or use the NC title transfer form, to make sure you have all the needed info. http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/forms/vehicleregistration/download/mvr1.pdf

IMHO I would take and USE the MVR-63 Power of Attorney form. Basically allowing you to sign on their behalf as it relates to that vehicle. Not positive if an original is required for each use. NC DMV are idiots. http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/forms/vehicleregistration/download/mvr63.pdf
