Buying a Motorhome ...questions

Well, that didn’t last long. Sold the coach on Thursday. Previous owner called at 11am on Thursday and asked if I wanted to sell it. Of course I said for the right price I would. He said he needed it today. I said I am camping in Charleston this weekend. I told him he knew what I paid for it and that I had put 2k in to it to fix things. The offer had to be good. Well his cash offer was.. lol ( I did check with boss lady by the way) so I went home and unloaded it, he came and picked it up!
Now the issue was what about Charleston camping? Well went from 40’ to a 6’...lol now near the creature comforts, but making due!!
Now I am looking for another coach. I am much more educated on them and now know what I want and don’t want. So the search begins again!!

So what do you want and not want in your next one?

Duane

I want Or prefer
side radiator, Cummins 350 minimum, Allison trans ( not sure there are any others) residential fridge, two couches, would like to have at least 3 slides, good tires, make sure EVERYTHING ON THE COACH WORKS ( I F’t up on this on last coach which was totally my fault). Prefer roadmaster chassis. try to stay with the Monaco, Tiffin, Newman, etc. I will say that the craftsmanship on my Monaco was top notch. Solid oak all the way through, steel frame under body, it was rock solid. Want pre DEF diesel.

What I don’t want
Electric awning, single chair on passenger side living room, aqua hot system, norcold fridge, lower end chassis or make, any delamination of fiberglass dues to leaks around windows or caulking, minimal air leaks if any in system.

I learned a LOT on the coach, from inverters, wiring, fusing, circuit breakers, relays, door latches, flooring, holding tanks, Air systems ( leaks), Protection valves, Lighting, TV replacement/ upgrade, DOT Air fittings, fogged glass repair, where to look for leaks. Also driving the coach was totally different from a gasser. Once I got used to that, it was a sweet ride for sure!

all that said, I MAY look at some gassers as well. I can get a lot newer model for the same money. Talk to some folks that have them and they seem pleased. Most are pulling toads and don’t have any complaints. Since I only really use a few times a year, With possibly/hopefully one long one, it may be the way to go for now. Decisions, decisions.....not in a hurry, just want one by May of next year.

I have a nice diesel pusher I may be willing to sell. :D
I am sure it is out of my price range. That is a super nice coach!,

Welp, ended up with a 04 Monaco 38PST, Roadmaster chassis, Cummins ISC, allison 6 speed, three slides. Bought from original owners who used in yearly until last year, 47,000 miles, near perfect mechanical shape, exterior 8 out of 10 (needs a waxing and some decals faded), tires installed end of 2018, Alumn wheels, all service records, books, owners manuals ect. I did give up the side radiator, has a electric awning, but appears to be a better design vs the other POS we had and residential fridge, but I like the propane option and ice maker of this one.Fridge has had the upgraded cooling unit installed with the high temp safety cutout just in case and it works awesome. 7500w quiet diesel with 426 hrs. The owner was a retired airline pilot and paid very close attention to every detail on the coach. They were 88 years old and basically had to give up camping for health reasons. We gave up some length (40.5 to 38.5) and some of the higher end quality aspects, but this coach feels like the power to weigh ratio is so much better. It pulls the grades at 65mph that the other coach would pull at 50mph. And there is nothing I need to fix or trace down beside the small leak in the plastic fitting for the outside water spigot and upgrade TV's. He also threw in a BlueOX tow system and brake buddy for the toad. So far we are extemely happy with this coach.
